Hi pooh,

Huge congratulations!

I know the most lovely Samaya which most people also seem to find easy to pronounce.

My Dh is morocaan so we are looking for a muslim name for DC2 too. All the ones I like for a girl his sisters back home have wrinkled their noses to, saying they are old ladies names!! Am hoping the trend for granny chic names will catch on there too!

Girls

Layali (means many nights)
Naima
Amina
Amani (means Hope/Wishes)
Safia
Zayna (DH mothers name)

Boys

Isa
Idriss
Soufiane
Elias (DS1's middle name)
Amir

I particularly love Amani for a girl but think it could be chavvily mis-heard as Armani!???

PS Love Noor (meaning Light - I'm told). Am a Christian but would love to use it as middle name if DC is a girl.

Masa - I would check this. "Almas" means "diamond". I think "masa" means something else.

Maymuna - You might like to know that "maymun" means "monkey" in Turkish. Written exactly like this, too.

There is also "Fuad" for a boy. Means "heart", I think.

My name is Nuriyya (or Nuria)
It means 'illuminated' or 'divine light'.

nanna3 · 06/07/2010 15:38

I have a son named Musa. It is the Arabic version of Moses. It is a beautiful name and it really suits him. My youngest son is Yusuf (Joseph). I think sometimes the inspiration for a name comes as you get to know your baby. I have 2 friends who are Munira (light) and Madina (short for Madina al Munawwara (City of Lights, where the Prophet Muhammad pbuh was born)You can see the connection between Munira and Munawwara. They have the same root - Nur (light)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 06/07/2010 15:42

My friend is called saquiba. Think that's a very pretty name.
