Naughty Amelia Jane...

Ineedsomesleep · 02/06/2010 19:35

I don't think its Chavvy either but why are you discussing your name changes in RL? That's what MN is for

bleedingheart · 02/06/2010 19:47

A lovely name. I don't think it matters that Rose is used a lot as a middle name at the moment, how often do people refer to a middle name anyway?

DivineInspiration · 02/06/2010 19:48

I don't think Amelia is 'chavvy' at all, but it is one of those names that's become so popular and widely used that it's crossed social borders, IYSWIM. In the same way that lots of names in the top 20 or so have - people from all walks of life think they're lovely names, so where they might have once been seen as posh, they've now levelled out a lot more. Amelia was number 7 or 8 on the top 100 last year, wasn't it?

I think of Amelia as being a bit like Ruby, Grace, Olivia, Jessica, Chloe, Ellie, Evie - you can't really make an offhand guess about them.

No doesn't strike me as chav at all!!! Sounds lovely! I totally agree with you on the unusual names, people can try sooo hard to give their child a cool or different name but it can sound pompus and trying way too hard. Go for it, I love it. I have a Daisy May (born in may). It's a popular middle name but I just love it sooo much. Good luck x

lulabellamozerella · 02/06/2010 20:20

Amelia is nice! Has lots of nn potential too! Seems to be a lot of Roses as middle names at the moment, I wouldn't be bothered about that tbh because every other person I meet has my middle name and it has never affected me!

sungirltan · 02/06/2010 20:31

I agree with secondcoming.

It is certainly not posh, incredibly popular and a little common. I have heard it shouted down the aisles in the supermarket several times "Meeeellliieeee".

What about Millicent or Camilla?

We have an Arabella and we're not posh in the slightest but I think the name Arabella is as lots of people have commented on this. Hopefully it won't make the jump into Chavity as I quite like the idea of being posh. I had to fight long and hard for this name, DH preferred Trinity....... need I say more? "Trinitee, get ere naaah!"

who gives a toss if its common or posh ..just use it if you like it ..

Housemum · 02/06/2010 21:05

I have an Amelie Rose, and wish I had gone for a more original middle name - I honestly hadn't realised how popular Rose was (and just last week a friend introduced me to her newborn niece, yep, another Amelie Rose)

I don't like Amelia (which would have gone with our other 2 daughters' traditional English names) as I don't like the "eeeee" sound, and also I think of naughty Amelia Jane.

I fully intended to shorten it to Millie but still use Amelie all the time.

sungirltan · 02/06/2010 21:07

really tsc!! oh no!! in that case op maybe you should rethink!

usualsuspect · 02/06/2010 21:10

God forbid anyone in Manchester dares call their daughter Amelia.. The only Millies I know live in semi detached land

Of course some MNers will know of 'Chavvy' Amelias, it's very popular! All names in the top 100 will be used by some chavvy types.

It's a classless name. A nice one at that.
This chavvy thing is beyond ridiculous

Wanderingsheep · 02/06/2010 21:33

I think it's lovely and I like Millie as a nn, although prefer the Milly spelling.

sungirltan · 02/06/2010 21:39

no, thesecondcoming - i'm being serious!!

no offrence taken at all

i am shamelessly snobby about names!

fulltimeworkingmum · 02/06/2010 21:48

Really pretty as long as it is two separate names. Hyphenated is getting very downmarket. xx

madly · 02/06/2010 21:51

If, like me, you have not been anywhere near a primary school for years then I urge to to check out the popular names on the coat pegs.

I was stunned to find that sooo many little girls had the same name at my DD's school.

So many have the same name, that in order to identify each child the first name has to be linked to the surname, i.e. Millie A.,Millie.B etc.
Amelia is beautiful name. Nothing to do with chavvy, common or anything else.

Mimi1977 · 02/06/2010 21:51

I love it - defo not Chav. Really pretty.

bigbluebump · 02/06/2010 22:06

I wouldn't call any name 'chav' (or 'posh') but to me Millie feels very common as I hear the name so often...

... and such names could date more than less commonly used names.
