I'm not allowed this, but curious if anyone else likes this for a girl

If you ask if anyone likes it-you must be prepared for the fact that many won't. I wouldn't put a DD in the position of having a name that she might find difficult in the playground.
Noah is a boy's name. If you call her Noa-people will still think it a boys name.
As a supply teacher I regularly take registers when I don't know any of the DCs and no one has told me a single thing about them. If I called Noah or Noa and there was no reply I would say 'has anyone seen him'-I will take more care after this, but it would never occur to me that it was a girl.
It will happen all the time.

Noa is lovely. It's a relatively common name in Israel, I think. I knew one there, there is a well-known singer (poss the one above?) from there, and it's the name of Rabin's grandaughter too.

dizzydixies · 27/05/2010 19:47

ah, now I'm unkind - beg to differ

kawaiiko · 27/05/2010 21:32

Ooh, Noa for a girl...as tanterose has already mentioned, it's a girl's name in Japan. Lovely.

mrsgportishead · 29/05/2010 14:30

Noa looks more feminine, I like Noelle for a girl, which is similar, just a bit more feminine

sapell3 · 29/05/2010 14:53

Or Noella

mopsyflopsy · 29/05/2010 15:13

Noa looks and sounds like a girls name to my ears. In fact, almsot all names ending in -a sound feminine to me. I think it is lovely for a girl .

sedgiebaby · 29/05/2010 17:58

I love the sound of Noelle and Noella quite pretty. But the christmas association puts me off somewhat

LOVE IT!

honestly think its fab {noah}

mopsyflopsy · 30/05/2010 10:05

I'd write it Noa if it is for a girl. I doubt many people would consider it a boys' name written like that.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 30/05/2010 10:17

I love Noa for a girl. And spelt like that I would assume it was a girl if I saw it written.

rachel234 · 30/05/2010 11:04

Beautiful for a girl, but I'd spell it Noa.

Not keen on Noa/Noah for a boy, think it sounds feminine and soft.

Lucypeanut · 30/05/2010 11:09

I had a lovely friend in Australia called Noa, it really suited her. Her parents were Israeli and I think it's quite a common name there. I love it, but also like Noelle

sedgiebaby · 30/05/2010 20:27

I'm liking noa/h more and more now!!! Tried DH but he is having none of it (pulled a twisty face)

I like Noor (Arabic girl's name, probably same name as Noa) but Noah is definitely known as a boy's name.

funlovingcriminal · 15/06/2010 09:01

We have chosen this name for our baby coming soon. we are in Spain, where it is used as a girls name, but I do worry about if we ever live in the UK, and the reaction of my family to this 'boys' name.

Anyway, it's been decided since day one, so Noa she will be...

ahhh, feels good to write that down!

expatinscotland · 15/06/2010 09:16

No.

funlovingcriminal · 15/06/2010 09:22

ah.

vess · 16/06/2010 15:46

I like it - spelt Noa. The name sounds very very girly anyway.

LilMagill · 16/06/2010 15:53

Think Noa has a different origin to Noah, think they would also be pronounced diff. in Hebrew?

Anyway I can see the appeal of Noa if the boys' name Noah didn't exist (think there's a perfume called Noa too), but as it is I wouldn't use it. Too much hassle as Noah is quite popular now.

LilMagill · 16/06/2010 15:55

And yeah, the 'Boy named Sue' effect is completely dependent on the child's personality; having to explain their name all the time will not do a naturally shy child any favours at all.

irisblue · 16/06/2010 21:01

I have an Israeli (female) friend called Noa - it really suits her
