Which of these names is least "a now name"?

Which of these girl's names is least popular at the moment? I.e. not every second person is naming their child it:

Rose
Eve
Juliet
Isabelle
Elizabeth
Josephine

Our surname begins with an "S" so I concerned Rose might run into the surname, otherwise I think this would be my favourite.

Same for boy's names:

Hugo
Isaac
Maxim
Edward
Felix

I don't want to scream "try hard" and at the same time, don't want anything too common and plain...

Thanks!

Juliet and Felix

NoahAndTheWhale · 19/05/2010 17:23

I know children called
Rose
Eve (and Eva and Evie)
Isabelle and Isabel and Isobel
Elizabeth

Don't know any Juliets or Josephines (I love the name Josephine )

I only know an Edward out of the boys' names. Out of those, Isaac my favourite.

BessieBoots · 19/05/2010 17:24

Josephine and Edward.

Please not Maxim...

theagedparent · 19/05/2010 17:26

Juliet and Maxim are the only ones that I don't know any of. Rose and Eve very popular

mathanxiety · 19/05/2010 17:29

Josephine and Juliet for girls.

Eve/Evie/Eva/Ava (nn Evie) is huge. Isabelle/Isobel and all other variations are everywhere (loads of Izzys), and Rose is getting the double impetus from being a flower name as well as an old lady name.

For boys, I think Isaac and Maxim, maybe Hugo.

There are loads of Felixes (Felixii?), and Edward is part of the Vampire craze so it's sweeping the globe/ universe.

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/05/2010 17:30

Josephine and Edward, however you may get a load of daft bints naming their babies after the Twilight character.

But those are the two most classic names imo. Juliet is nice as well, although you run the risk of Jools as a nickname, which is hideous. Josephine and Edward both lovely classic names, with nice nicknames associated.

Eve and Rose terribly popular.

emmyloo2 · 19/05/2010 17:30

What's wrong with Maxim? I think Max is really sweet. It is also a Serbian name and my husband is of Serbian origin. Is it too harsh sounding?

I thought Eve and Eva were very popular. My s-in-l has an Eva so I think I would be reluctant to go with Eve anyway.

It's a fine balance between choosing a name you like which is not crazy weird, but is not outrageously popular. I love Isabelle but I just think everyone is naming their child Isabelle. Sigh.

Josephine and Juliet for girls

Hugo for boys.

overmydeadbody · 19/05/2010 17:33

Juliet is thr only girl's name that none of the pupils in my primary school are called, and from your boy's names, we only have one max(im) and one Edward. None of the others.

BettyBizzghetti · 19/05/2010 17:33

Juliet and Josephine aren't too common (as in 'frequently heard'), but I agree with GetOrf about Jools being a bad nn. I do know one little Josephine, but lots of little Isabelles/Izzies, Roses, Eves/Evies and Elizabeths.

Boys: I know lots of them all!

NoahAndTheWhale · 19/05/2010 17:34

Maxim is a little daft sounding. Max is fine. Could have Maximillian maybe?

autodidact · 19/05/2010 17:41

I don't think any are particularly "now" apart from Eve and Isabelle, both of which are lovely names so I can see why they got their recent revival. Elizabeth and Rose are perenially popular but not in that surge of people suddenly naming their child a name that was preeviously practically unhead of way.

emmyloo2 · 19/05/2010 17:45

Hmmm...seems Juliet and Josephine are probably the least popular. I think you could always go with Elizabeth and not be too try hardy. I am still skeptical about Eve and Isabelle though. Maybe just too many.

My favourite boy's name is currently Hugo. Too much? In Oz I think it is still relatively "original".

Josephine and Edward.

We have loads of little Isaacs around here!

dannas · 19/05/2010 17:50

Edward, Elizabeth & Juliet are the only ones on your lists that aren't 'now'.

Hedwig3 · 19/05/2010 17:50

I haven't recently heard of a...

Julie
Josephine (my favourite)
Elizabeth

Hugo (my favourite)
Maxim

There are SO many Edwards we are tripping over them in the street!!!

mathanxiety · 19/05/2010 17:56

I like Maxim a lot.

minipie · 19/05/2010 17:56

Josephine.

Loads of mentions of Juliet on MN at the moment, suspect it's about to take off.

Edward

There will be plenty of these, but there always are (it's a classic) so it's not a particularly "now" name.

Elizabeth

Same as for Edward - it's a classic, so not a "now" name despite being quite popular.

BoldChislers · 19/05/2010 18:29

Juliet and Hugo

zozzle · 19/05/2010 18:40

I'd say Juliet and Edward are least "now" names although Edward quite popular.

Josephine and Maxim best meet your criteria IMO.

emmyloo2 · 19/05/2010 21:37

Not sure what aspirational means? I am assuming it's a class thing. Not really an issue in Australia where we will live. I am certainly not aspiring to a higher class. I don't even think about that. I just want a sweet, cute name which is not too popular....

Elizabeth and Edward are my favs. Classic names that could belong to any generation

scurryfunge · 20/05/2010 00:03

Maxim is completely ridiculous
