what name did you like partner veto'ed?

seeing the dislike and do you like your own name I got to think about this one

What names did you like for your dc but your partner was adament was NOT happening?

Basil (I didnt grow up in the UK dont have the faulty towers connection)

Alexander (apparently it is a "weak" name

for me towards Him I can recall vetoing (is that a word?)

Harry (my close friend has an AWFUL horrid dog called it)

DH vetoed Dominic for a boy - said it was a sissy name.
I on the other I vetoed George - my dad's name and Harry - His brother in laws name
I wanted our child to be an individual not have silly family members telling everyone that they were named after them.

I wanted 'Poppet' for a middle name for our DD1 (OK, I do have a penchant for names that could be used for cats, and particularly when pregnant!).

Dh likes names like 'Verity' and 'Harriet' - which are good names (so I guess I'm lucky, even though he suggested 'Yvonne' in all seriousness last time).

I'm toying with 'Titus', 'Rufus' and 'Sholto' in case we're having a boy this time. I just get a face.

I'm actually considering calling DS1 "Lib-Con pact"

I feel it best reflects the fact that his name will be an uncomfortable compromise, the last possibility, having eliminated all the names which either DH or I love, but which the other one loathes

All of them Lonnie and he refused to come up with any alternative suggestions which was the final straw for me .

Can't help laughing at your dp saying Alexander was a weak name, I always thought it meant defender of mankind.

Finnian (no good reason)
Fingolfin (I was annoyed about the veto for the other two, would have been superb if he'd said yes, but I would have wimped it)

Dh has is being awkward with regards to all my choices- he is adamant it is his turn to name this one.
He has vetoed- Imogen , Claudia , and Florence (although he likes this, but it will inevitably be 'Flo'.

His suggestions have been Posy and India.

We clearly are not singing from the same hymn sheet!!

I have just posted on FB that i can't spend 20 weeks stressing about it, so our daughter will be called.....

Simple, unique, option of lengthening to Number Three when older.....

He didn't veto any of mine, I let him come up with suggestions and then I gave them the name that I wanted.
If I tell you among his suggestions were Simon,Susan, Troy and Paris then you can understand why I had the final say

Jago, Hugo, Miles. Funny how these ones seem to be popular with some of us but not with them! Also Romilly, Clemence and Aquilina. The last one was a fleeting desire, I'm sure down to my hormones...

He suggested India, which seems mad because we haven't been to India. Maybe that's just me.

We have a Romilly - DH vetoed at first and then came round to it. He's no so accommodating with my other suggestions, though.

Oh lucky you Lulu - I love that name. It's so pretty. Think we've come to a mutual agreement on potential dd's first name now but maybe I can sneak it in as a middle! Does she get called any shortened version by friends, out of interest?

Dh vetoed almost every boys name that I suggested. Each name I came up with he would say, "No, I knew an XX and he was a wanker!" The only name we could agree on was Peter, mainly because he has never disliked a Peter.

Luckily we had dd's which we agreed on much more readily.

ooosabeauta Some of my side of the family call her 'Rom' or 'Rom-Rom' as does DD2. Most of the time it's Romilly in full - though now she's nearly five, she's toying with shortening it to Milly (we're not all that keen, so we're not reacting either way, but I guess it's what you do when you're five). I had a notion (when I was pregnant with her) that I might call her 'Mimi' but it never happened. I love the name so much - I don't like shortening it.

I got my choice with DS1 so had to go with his for DS2 - although I wanted Freddie or Seth
