Anyone know any sweet sounding Japanese girls names?

Or boys for that matter.

We have a Mika (maternal great grandmothers name) and a Jack (paternal grandfathers name) and we have shortlisted James and Ruby for DC3.

Have looked at Google list of Japanese baby names and nothing really stood out.

Any suggestions would be great.

Yumi
Itsuko
Samiko

I don't know if these names have dated as the women I know with these names are all well into their 30s.

Aah Mariko, the very name takes me back to the film series Shogun, starring Richard Chamberlain. He falls in love with a beautiful Japanese girl called Mariko

But I digress.... lots of lovely suggestions given earlier.

I agree Junko is lovely but there may be a problem with pronunciation. A friend has this name and there is always confusion as to whether it is Yung-ko or Jung-ko.

Oh, so many beautiful names. Wonders whether I could get away with a Japanese sounding name with my very non-Japanese background...damn, better get conceiving again first!

On CBeebies birthdays the other day, there was a little girl named 'Miyuki'. I thought that sounded pretty.

I have worked for a Japanese company, where I met Aiko, Megumi, Yoko, Atsune, Yumie and Naruko.

I love the name Kimiko, and would be tempted if I had another dd, but I know that dh would veto as we have no real Japanese connections.

AuntieMaggie · 04/05/2010 18:57

Saya is quite nice

Names ending in -ko are seen as quite old fashioned for girls in Japan these days - you won't find many people aged under 25 with a -ko name, apart from the crown prince's daughter Aiko.

I know lots of younger Japanese girls with 'mi' (means beautiful) in their names: Mio, Mia, Rimi, Miyu, Ami, Emi, Yumi etc. Hana (flower) and Emi are popular with cross-cultural families as they work well in English and Japanese.

Jamiki · 05/05/2010 17:27

Wow, some of those are really nice, thanks for the list Sparkly. Cheers girls

I had two Japanese childhood friends, named Madoka and Mikiko. Both were very sweet girls so I still remember their names fondly.
