Hi, i'm due another little lady soon who i am planning to name Daisy-Mae or Daisy-May. I already have a 2 year old called Lexie-Rose so I definately want the hyphen in there.

Do you like Daisy-Mae or Daisy-May?

I've got a Maisie Amelia - was quite spooked to see it mentioned as have never heard of another....

zozzle · 22/04/2010 18:51

Daisy is ok as kids name - although I must say Daisy on Dukes of Hazard was quite cool!

With a few exceptions (e.g. Sarah-Jane, Sally-Anne) hyphenated names are a bit chav IMO.

I think you should steer clear of Mae, Rae etc. May is nice as a middle name (but not hyphenated).

I agree with Padraig in that Daisy is considered chavtastic. I'm in London so maybe it's a regional thing lol

Daisy-Mae is flippin horrible!

piscesmoon · 22/04/2010 18:55

Far too twee. Also hate the spelling of Mae. I would avoid a hyphenated name.

EccentricaGallumbits · 22/04/2010 18:56

used to have a rabbit called daisy-may. she was vicious.

Egwene · 22/04/2010 20:14

You dont have to follow a pattern with your childrens names, each can be unique. How do you feel about Daisy Elizabeth? Or Elizabeth Daisy and you could shorten it to Lizzy-Dai.

toppoptart · 22/04/2010 20:28

I like it with the May spelling but I have appalling taste in names according to mn, your baby call her what you like, she can always drop the hyphenated middle name when she is older :-)

CirrhosisByTheSea · 22/04/2010 20:33

I just don't get why you would deliberately uglify a nice name, and make it chavtastic with the addition of the hyphen. I really, really just don't get it.

Will there be line dancing?

Daisy on its own = great

Daisy-Mae = too Dukes of Hazard (if you're old enough to remember them ) for my liking

mathanxiety · 22/04/2010 20:50

Are you set on Daisy? Laura May is nice, and sounds nice with Lexie, imo.

If you've decided it's got to be Daisy, then May with a Y.

usualsuspect · 22/04/2010 21:00

Padraig ...I've lived on a council estate for years ,the only Daisys I know live in the big houses on the other side of the tracks

skidoodly · 22/04/2010 21:02

I agree with weegie, at least put Margaret May on the child's birth certificate, then she can be Daisy-May when she's little but change it to Margaret, Maggie (May ), Peggy, whatever when she's older.

I presume your elder daughter is Alexandra Rose? That is a beautiful name - lots you can do with Alexandra too.

Turniphead1 · 22/04/2010 21:09

My DD is at class at school with both a Daisy and a Daisy-May (both of whom are both assuredly middle-class here in South London, if you actually care about such matters ).

I wasn't keen on the hypenated one to begin with, but actually it has grown on me. But please do spell it "May" - why make her life more complicated than it needs to be. And she can always just call herself Daisy if she wants to later (as indeed both her and Lexie will at some point!).

best of luck!

downthecreek · 22/04/2010 21:16

Margaret much better. Less council than Daisy.

How about Maggie? Also a nickname of Margaret but much nicer??

cadburyblanchedalmond · 22/04/2010 21:22

I prefer Daisy-Mae but then I do have 4 dd's all with hyphonated names including a -Mae, -Rose and
a -Rae.

Disclaimer
I do live in social housing but am not "chav" and haven't appeared on Jeremy Kyle.

suesgirls · 22/04/2010 21:26

I'm not really bothered if it's seen as chavy tbh as i've seen Lexie slated on another board called chav etc. Anyway i'm not exactly posh so maybe it suits lol

Less council? FFs

Turniphead1 · 22/04/2010 21:40

cadbury fair play to you! I have only 3 dc and seem to struggle constantly to remember their names (well while I am addressing them...) so the thought of adding another 3 names by way of hypen - well my head would spin....

Do you actually use the full names all the time or just the first name?

muggglewump · 22/04/2010 21:43

The thing is, whilst you might not be bothered if it's seen as chavvy, it's not going to be your name.

I'd at least lose the hyphen and if you must, then use May.

I really don't get Rose/Mae/May/Rae etc though. They are so standard issue. Don't people choose middle names anymore? Do they just collect one as they leave the Mat ward?

downthecreek · 22/04/2010 21:43

Someone with a Daisy is getting the hump (usualsuspect.) If you don't want to hear other people's opinions then don't come on the name threads.
You spoke about 'council' yourself did you not?

I think that Daisy's a daft name and it is popular on the local council estates.

usualsuspect · 22/04/2010 21:45

I don't have a Daisy ..too middle class for my liking ...

4andnotout · 22/04/2010 21:48

Turnip (I'm cadbury I hadn't changed back from earlier ) all 4 of my dd's have hyphonated names and I use them both as do the schools, friends and family.
