Kyle is probably Scottish, but don't go around claiming it's Irish because there's no K in Irish. (Killian is spelled with a C in Irish). Kylan still seems made up and based on Kyle and Dylan rolled together. Just because a name is called a variant doesn't mean it means the same or has the same antecedents.

Are you interested in unusual names?
Kahlil
Kaspar
Kasimir

or Casper
Casimir
which have the same sound but start with C.

ozmetric · 15/04/2010 17:40

Prefer Kyle.

Prefer Kyle.

happymum2010 · 15/04/2010 17:57

casper and casimir i don't like them, we have a casper cartoon and a casimir cartoon (very popular) that probably why i really don't like it
but thanks anyway we still love kylan and we will look again on baby name books and websites during this last 3 months

Some K names ive heard on boys (mostly from NZ) Korbin, Kane, Keefe, Keegan, Kester(nn Kes)and Kaio (usualy Caio is a variant of Caius meening 'happy rejoice'.there are some nice K names
here

GladioliBuckets · 15/04/2010 21:43

Kian is quite popular since that Boyzone/Westlife chappy.

LynetteScavo · 15/04/2010 21:47

Hmm ...Kian is popular with a certain type of parent, IME...

I'm not keen on Kylan, but I've never heard it before. A bit much with Kelvin, I think, but if you like it.........

EricNorthmansmistress · 15/04/2010 22:10

There is no problem having children in the same class with the same name. Honestly, there were 4 of my name in my class at school, it was fine. Far better to give the child a normal name and risk someone else having it than something off the wall and made up sounding.

Scottish/Irish names for non-scottish/irish people is so over anyway.

AbFabT · 15/04/2010 22:53

Another one not a fan of the matching initials. Which child opens the mail when a personal letter arrives for K.Surname?

APassionateWoman · 15/04/2010 22:57

I know a Turkish boy called Kaylan (pronounced Kylan).

Kian and Killian are bastardisations of Cian and Cillian.

K names are a bit odd, imo.

lotster · 15/04/2010 23:06

Wukter&s suggestion of Killian is a better version. Only seen it Cillian myself however. (Cillian Murphy the actor)

I know a Kenton as another K suggestion?

purpleduck · 15/04/2010 23:53

Love Kyle (nephews name)
Keelan (means "small" )
Kieran?
Kaedan?

happymum2010 · 16/04/2010 10:48

kiwichika thanks for your list i ve read them all and like few of them

i like kian, keelan and kieran but my partner is still into kylan and a bit of kieran (the only think is kieran in french sound a bit like a brick)

EN we are not specially looking into scottish/irish name it's just we both like this 2 names without knowing they was scottish or irish name

we have look into french name as we are french but as we live in England, people doesn't prononce the name as we do that's a problem with the french name as lot have a bad meaning here (fanny, lou...) or people just prononce completly differently and doesn't sound the same name at all

it quiet difficult to find a nice name for our children's specially when you are from abroad ... but never mind i'm sure we gona find something nice and unusual !! lol

AFT i've never received a letter without my first name writte on it properly...

i have many friends and familly who's first letter name are the same and i really don't see any problem with that !

i was also in the classroom with other people who had the same first name as mine and it really confused me as when the teacher called my name but it wasn't me i was always disturb thinking she called me ! or even in the street, shop...

What "boy name Kylan"?

CoteDAzur · 16/04/2010 10:51

"Kaylan" is not a Turkish name. (No, don't protest, it really isn't)

Kayhan is.

Ineedsomesleep · 16/04/2010 10:55

I think French names are lovely. Is it really such a problem if we pronouce it differently? I know lots of people who are known by one name at home and another by other people.

George works in both languages imo. I may be slightly biased though as that is my DS' name.

Agree also with the other comments on not using the letter K again. My Father and me have the same initials, he used to open all my post when I lived at home so nothing was private. He just didn't bother to read the envelopes properly.

CakeandRoses · 16/04/2010 11:03

Sorry, another vote against Kylan here. It's okish on its own but I'm afraid it sounds a bit gimmicky with Kelvin.

Do you have to stick with K? If so, check out this list: www.lilimay.com/names/boy_baby_names.php/name/k

happymum2010 · 16/04/2010 11:30

Ineedsomesleep it is a bit of problem because it change completly the sound of the name

i'm not into a K letter my partner has a 10 yrs old daughter she's name coralie and also i have look at every single letter on baby names books and like others name such as
Timeo
Cenzo (prononcation is chenzo)
nael ...
but my husband don't like any name ended with o or el
I have a lidt with about 30 name on

and he agree with me only for the name kylan

Haven't read the rest of the thread but my favourite ever boys name begining with K is ... Kit (love it).

jumpyjan · 16/04/2010 11:42

Its short for Christopher by the way.

CuppaTeaJanice · 16/04/2010 11:56

Could you spell it Cylan?

Or Mylan, Rylan, Aylan?

mathanxiety · 16/04/2010 15:10

How about Callum, Cole or Colman (pr KUL-mawn)?

There's also
Cairbre (Kor-i-breh)
Caoilte (KEEL-cha)
Caomh (Keev)
Cathal (KOH-hal) (KOH as in collie)
Cathan (KOH-hann)
Cormac (KOR-mac)
Conal (Kun-ell)
Conan
Conleth
Conor

Is Kevin popular in France? I know a French 16 yo with this name.

ozmetric · 16/04/2010 15:27

It's too similar to pylon.

mathanxiety · 16/04/2010 15:30

SusieCarmichael · 16/04/2010 15:37
