I am desperate for an individual name for a girl. It has been suggested on another thread that vegetable names are the new flower names, but I don't want to surf anybody else's wave, tbh, so I am now investigating Tree names.

Is it a good idea?

I am thinking Yew at the moment.

Pumpkin has been done to death though, and Kale and Zucchini are boys' names, imo. I couldn't use Chard- what if she ever suffered a burn?

Pulses! That's what you want. Lentil. Or possibvly Lentyl. To be fancy. Or how about Puy?

Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:06

They don't pronounce Kyle in Morningside, ME. Ever.

Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:07

Good point re Chard. Kohl Rabi?

preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:07

Puy is the little tellytubby, if I remember rightly. I want something unique, ideally.

. Of course not.

But perhaps they holiday in Kale of Lochalsh?

Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:08

You'll need to genetically engineer a vegetable and then call it kjtyboug. This could take soem time. when are you due?

Shaz10 · 06/04/2010 22:09

Unique? How about jfdgjkhn? I bet nobody else will have that name. It's easy to pronounce, but remember the j is silent.

(sorry)

Gardener's Delight?
Butternut Squash?
Boltardy Beetroot?

preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:10

I could pop any day, Habbibu. I feel like a watermelon. But that name doesn't really work, does it? Hmmmm, I don't know.

If you go with Puy, you could call the next one Pea.

preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:12

I like Pea, actually. But I would pronounce it Pia, I think.

Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:13

Canteloupe? loopy for short.

Shaz10 · 06/04/2010 22:14

I think Aubergine passes the playground test more than the others. Stick with that.

preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:15

Is that not a synonym for mad? Not your brightest idea . I've got a feeling you aren't taking this seriously. I warn you, I am not to be trifled with

OP posts:
preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:16

What is this playgrond test of which you speak?

OP posts:
Lionstar · 06/04/2010 22:17

Trifle - there's an idea. Be on the crest of a pudding name wave.

Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:18

Trifle now? Make up your mind, woman. Sherry, then. Or possibly sponge. Or you could go all continental and try Tiramisu.

Shaz10 · 06/04/2010 22:18

Oh it's the ultimate test of a baby name. Imagine your child is 4-8 years old. Imagine them at the other side of the playground, full of children and adults. You need them to come to you. Shout their name so that everyone can hear it. Are you embarrassed? Then pick another name.

midnightexpress · 06/04/2010 22:18

Now you're talking lionstar.

Souffle
Mousse
Tiramisu
Endless possibilities there OP.

preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:19

With Strawberry as a nickname? Rather cute actually, yes. Have you heard of any others?

OP posts:
Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:19

x-posts, Lionstar! Brownie? Might be confusing as she gets older.

preggobrain · 06/04/2010 22:21

Shaz, that's why I thought Yew would be good. It's a word we use every day- who could be embarrassed by it?

I'm liking Souffle though. Or could it sound like she is on the windy side?

OP posts:
Habbibu · 06/04/2010 22:22

Damn, why is Masterchef never on when you need it? Sod all this traditional food stuff - preggo needs cutting edge. I'm thinking Veloute. Or Foam.
