Would love to hear opinions on this name.

Do you think this stands well alone as a given name? I know is a short form of Sarah, but I'm not keen on Sarah at all.

I really like Sadie! It's one I've been toying with, my only concern is whether it sounds a bit american.

I think it's fine as a stand alone name.

DH's nan is Sadie and we have a little one at our school - LOVE IT! Not likely to become 'over-popular' but still sounds like a 'proper' name IYKWIM.

sunshiney · 01/04/2010 23:05

I LOVE it

SillyTillyBilly · 01/04/2010 23:21

It's not my taste but I know one and she is so cute. Having said that someone once said to me something along the lines about it being a name that very posh people use and also very working class but nothing in between (not my comment I might add!) I only know one!

I prefer Sarah personally with the nn Sadie.

bibbitybobbityhat · 01/04/2010 23:43

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.

Top name!

lotster · 01/04/2010 23:48

One of my very loveliest friends is a Sadie. Love it. Growing up it ticked the "cool" and "pretty boxes".

jasper · 01/04/2010 23:55

slightly too adorable. Don't do it

5DollarShake · 02/04/2010 09:54

Lovely name - go for it.

SuzysZoo · 02/04/2010 10:18

I nearly went for it for one of my girls but then someone told me it sounds like sadist, or shortens to sad, and that put me off. I prefer Sarah, Sara, Zara or Zadie now, as they have a slightly different sound.

boodleboot · 02/04/2010 10:21

i always want to sing 'sexy sadie....what have you done....la la la la' etc....so it feels slightly sexualised to me....

ChippingIn · 02/04/2010 13:17

Sadie the cleaning lady....

I must be getting old if I'm the only one who makes this instant association...

KAEKAE · 02/04/2010 18:38

Dogs name....

sweetkitty · 02/04/2010 18:40

DD1's middle name love it

Magaly · 02/04/2010 18:41

I think it's lovely. considered it when i was pg with dc1. it was the name of david blunkett's guide dog (think he has a new one now).

when you are pregnant the tiniest little thing can make you afraid to use a name. WHO knows the name of david blunkett's guide dog!!?

mathanxiety · 03/04/2010 17:47

Love it. I know a sweet 3 yo and a really old lady with this name (3 yo was named Sadie and the old lady was named Sarah originally) and it's lovely for both. Old fashioned yet hip all at the same time and not many names can do that without the Trying Too Hard factor.

shockers · 03/04/2010 18:01

Sadie is a lovely name

CantSleepWontSleep · 03/04/2010 18:04

Lovely.

stressheaderic · 03/04/2010 18:37

Haha, love the ref to David Blunkett's dog. Funny the very silly and trivial things that put you off names.

madamefreckle · 04/04/2010 21:26

Lovely, uncommon, good balance of not-silly but pretty

HerHonesty · 04/04/2010 21:39

really not very nice at all.

lowrib · 06/04/2010 00:22

Lovely. It was my Gran's name (she was Welsh).

Granny23 · 06/04/2010 00:30

I am afraid it smacks of Sadie the cleaning lady for me too. Must be a generational thing.

BitOfFun · 06/04/2010 01:20

Enid Blyton's St. Clare's series for me- but I still like it. It seems like a nickname to me though, but for what? Sarah? I don't know.
