I don't know. It might grow on me, but first impressions are that it's a bit watery and vague.

I like Ylenia (a greek name). That is similar but sounds more substantial.

Hullygully · 31/03/2010 20:12

Sounds like a made up country - like Illyria from Twelfth Night or some such...

Collision · 31/03/2010 20:13

It is italian for Hilary

DHs cousin is called Ilaria and we call her YaYa for short!

Hulababy · 31/03/2010 20:14

How do you pronounce it?

Il-ar-ee-a or Il-a-ree-a ?

Not keen TBH.

brimfull · 31/03/2010 20:14

I have never heard of it.

Doesn't trip off the tongue easily.

AnnieGG · 31/03/2010 20:16

I don't like it. Sorry

TreeTrunkThighs · 31/03/2010 20:16

To my untrained ear it sounds both unheard of and made up.

I know it is neither but if I think it, others probably will and if you are bothered...which it sounds like you are

BridesheadRegardless · 31/03/2010 20:16

I need a phonetic break down.

(and so will lots of other people)

TreeTrunkThighs · 31/03/2010 20:17

Forgot to say, however, that I rather like it.

bibbitybobbityhat · 31/03/2010 20:17

Ooooh Hully beat me to it with her quick-off-the-mark Shakespearian knowledge.

Fel1x · 31/03/2010 20:18

Sounds made up to me (even though it isnt) and a bit crap tbh

I hope she's funny, because if she is she'll be ilarrrrrious.

hth

Magaly · 31/03/2010 20:22

An Italian sur name would contextualise it.

Ilaria Piaccentini - ooh what a glorious name.

Ilaria Cooke - what the f?

I know an Ilaria. She is lovely. I like

LadyOfTheFlowers · 31/03/2010 20:30

If you like it, go for it, but think peoples' first response is going to 'What...?' andyou will be constantly repeating it/explaining.

boodleboot · 31/03/2010 20:33

bessie did u find it a difficult name to get ur head around on first hearing?

collision...has ur cousin had neg reactions to the name?

OP posts:
Collision · 31/03/2010 20:35

DH's cousin is Italian!! Sorry I should have said earlier!

Ponders · 31/03/2010 20:36

hm - what hulababy said. My 1st thought was, could you stand it if people said iller-REAR? (was assuming you were thinking more ill-AREA)(if you like iller-rear then go for it - still sounds somewhat made-up though)

(Yvonne, which sounds lovely in France (iv-ON), dahn south tends to be EEE-von...)

Fliight · 31/03/2010 20:37

Hmmm it is OK but it sounds too much like 'hilarious' for me, that was before I figured out/you said what it meant!
