India or Savannah - Pretentious or pretty?

I can't believe how tricky this name choosing malarkey is! What does everyone think about India or Savannah for a girl's name.
I was thinking about using Rose as a middle name so -
Savannah Rose

Or India Rose

?

I find them a bit predictable and they will date. But they're perfectly nice.

passionberry · 16/03/2010 16:42

I love India Rose. India would have been on my list but DH not keen. Might try him again with it actually!!

The only thing I would say - all baby girls at the moment seem to have Rose as a middle name!

BessieBoots · 16/03/2010 16:42

Personally I'd only name my child India if I had a connection to the country, and Savannah sounds a bit Danielle Steele to me.

But... Names are so personal, you should choose what you want. No doubt if I put up my 2DCs names, people would hate them!

chocolateorange · 16/03/2010 16:43

I think pretty, especially India.

Close friend has an India whom we all refer to as, Indy - which, imo, is lovely.

SqueezyB · 16/03/2010 17:00

imo, both a bit pretentious. Sorry!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 16/03/2010 17:40

I think they are both pretty, but I agree with Bessie about India

HelenDoula · 16/03/2010 17:43

My 1st DD is called Scarlett India (a friend called her baby India 2 weeks before Scarlett was born so we put it in the middle as it was originally our 1st choice).
Rae was an option for middle name (it is my 2nd DD, Sienna's middle name)
Savannah nice too !!

SoupDragon · 16/03/2010 17:45

I agree with Bessie.

lifeas3plus1 · 16/03/2010 17:58

Well you have my first and middle name in one of choices there and at 23yrs old still get people telling me how pretty and unusual it is.

But they are both nice imo.

LynetteScavo · 16/03/2010 18:05

Certainly no longer considered pretentious around here anymore.

MinnieMalone · 16/03/2010 18:06

I don't like India. India Rose especially. I can't put my finger on why.

Savannah is a name I shouldn't like, but I do.

Heeka · 16/03/2010 18:10

India Rose sounds like the name of a narrowboat - not sure why but it's what comes to my mind!

StrictlyKatty · 16/03/2010 18:17

I would say it will date. Savannah IMO is rather off the other end of pretentious....

ellesabe · 16/03/2010 18:18

I love them both

suwoo · 16/03/2010 18:18

Sorry, round here Savannah is the opposite of pretentious. India is ok but not my cup of tea.

Rindercella · 16/03/2010 18:19

Both lovely names. DD1 is India, her middle name isn't Rose though. We very briefly considered Savannah for soon to arrive DD2, but have decided on Jasmine.

Think for both names the child either needs to be exotic looking or conversely, very blonde, blue eyed and pretty to carry the name off (DD1 is the former).

MrsJohnDeere · 16/03/2010 18:21

India a bit pretentious (but getting quite common), Savannah very pretentious imo (I may be biased by knowing a very pretentious mother of a Savannah in RL).

belcantwait · 16/03/2010 18:23

my dd is India-rose! so obv i think it is lovely, most people i have met have commented on how pretty it is

belcantwait · 16/03/2010 18:25

ooh so i may be both common and pretentious at the same time

around here savannah is more 'common' than india. i dont know any others

ProudasPunch · 16/03/2010 18:27

In Brighton there are a number of Indias I've met - there is a risk of having several in a class

pointydog · 16/03/2010 18:34

I find them too exotic for any pasty child I might have.

A little overblown

TheApprentice · 16/03/2010 18:43

I know a lovely Savannah and now I absolutely love the name! She is neither the least bit pretentious or the other way! Just a really nice girl, and the thing is peoples perceptions of names change when they know someone with that name.

oldenglishspangles · 16/03/2010 18:48

pointy - you are joking arent you? thats quite racist. www.indiahicks.com/ Yes very common and extremely pasty, especially when she walked down the aisle with Princess Diana

PestoMonster · 16/03/2010 18:50

I like both

oldenglishspangles · 16/03/2010 18:52

i like both.
