Just wondered, as I think it's pretty. If it gets shortened however, would Yssy look nice on paper, or strange?

strange.

nancy75 · 07/03/2010 23:07

it looks wrong, if you say it the same i dont see the point in spelling it with a y

RustyBear · 07/03/2010 23:07

It just makes me think of Death's daughter in Terry Pratchett's book.

thumbwitch · 07/03/2010 23:08

too Terry Pratchett for those who know.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 07/03/2010 23:08

No I don't like it.

DuelingFanjo · 07/03/2010 23:09

I would pronounce the shortened version as Yus-ee on Is-ee

RoseBlossoms · 07/03/2010 23:09

Odd. You will spend the next 10 years correcting people your dd will spend the rest of her life doing that!

No just..... no

plonker · 07/03/2010 23:09

No, don't like it. Is it the spanish form?

DebiNewberry · 07/03/2010 23:11

She will have to say, With a Y. WITH A Y. for the rest of her life, and it sounds exactly the same as Isabelle, which is exactly as pretty.

nancy75 · 07/03/2010 23:12

if someone said to me my name is isabelle with a y i would wonder where the y went!

walkingonthemoon · 07/03/2010 23:14

not overly keen...

LittlePushka · 07/03/2010 23:20

Looks like a typo to me... sorry.

Oquioqui · 07/03/2010 23:50

People might pronounce it Ee-sa-belle.

Slartybartfast · 07/03/2010 23:52

no, don;t like it.

Bucharest · 08/03/2010 08:26

She will hate you.

GibbonInARibbon · 08/03/2010 08:29

Strange and wron. Sorry.

GibbonInARibbon · 08/03/2010 08:30

wrong even.

foofi · 08/03/2010 08:37

Why would you give your child a name that they will always have to spell out to people?

MmeLindt · 08/03/2010 08:40

Like Nancy, I would not know where the y went if someone said, "Ysabelle with a Y".

Strange. And Yssy is even worse. Sorry.

ChoreDodgingHairyTrucker · 08/03/2010 08:42

no. this is like Emmaleigh.

piratecat · 08/03/2010 08:42

if she's going to be Isabelle, Isobel, then it should be spelt like it sound imo.

it's too clever.

or just think of a more original name.

Headbanger · 08/03/2010 08:49

Terry Pratchett....

And she'll get sick of howling WITH A Y! for the rest of her life.

No.

Saying Isobel with a y is going to make you and then her sound nuts for years to come. Or stupid. I once taught a child called, and I have to think about it before I type it, Wenesday and we all definitely thought that her parents were a bit thick.

5DollarShake · 08/03/2010 11:33

As an Isobel, I can verify that she will spend her whole life telling people how to spell it anyway - why throw another curve ball in there?

And anyway - what's wrong with Isabelle?

If you're trying to be unique, then just give her a different name...
