For Goodness sake! I think the name is poncy. The man on Pineapple Dance Studios is extreemly camp and plays up to it. It's not about being homophobic I just think the name is very poncy and silly.

ladyintheradiotor you comment is very offensive. Yes I do have a son who may well be homosexual as if I'm bothered! I would NEVER in a million years say to someone I hope they never have children. It is the single most hurtful thing you could say and all because I made a joke.

Lighten up!

lovechoc · 07/03/2010 13:44

hear hear stictlykatty - it appears some people on MN are uptight and always seem to be on the defensive when there's absolutely no reason for it...

It was only a bit of light-hearted banter and even I saw the funny side of strictlykatty 's comment.

notsoteenagemum · 07/03/2010 13:48

Well grow up and say poncy or feminine then, you sound like Vicky Pollard ffs "Ohmygod Louis that's like well gay that is"

bananamumma love Louis, Theo and Eli.
Not keen on Noah and know too many Thomas ans Charlie's.

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 13:52

My best friend is homosexual and he says 'OMG those shoes are so massively gay' and such like all the time. Not everyone is so totally uptight that they need to go so totally over the top with PCism all the time you know

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 13:53

'In the Anglosphere, this connotation, among younger generations of speakers, has a derisive meaning equivalent to rubbish or stupid (as in "That's so gay."). In this use the word does not mean "homosexual", so that it can be used, for example, of an inanimate object or abstract concept of which one disapproves'

notsoteenagemum · 07/03/2010 13:54

Ahh the old gay best friend chestnut [yawn]

notsoteenagemum · 07/03/2010 13:56

You really are down with the kids homegirl.

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 13:56

"The word ?gay?, in addition to being used to mean ?homosexual? or ?carefree?, was often now used to mean ?lame? or ?rubbish?. This is a widespread current usage of the word amongst young people... The word 'gay' ... need not be offensive... or homophobic

LaDiDaDi · 07/03/2010 13:58

Noah from Noah and Louis but I prefer Eli to both of those.

SpiritualKnot · 07/03/2010 13:58

My son, now 18yo, is called Louis.

He oftyn gets called Lewis by those who just see the name(We're in Wales, where Lewis is a popular name). We named him after my brother, who was named after my Grandad, so it's stood the test of time!

My brother said at school he was often called "pooey Louis" and "Screwy Louis", but my son hasn't had any problems with it aoart from the "Lewis" thing.

We're still surprised at how often we say, when people say "Lewis", " it's Louis like the French" and people saying "Oh is it a French name? "

SK

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:00

Hahha well he's a German teacher so he's certainly never been described as 'down with the kids' before for anything he says so I'll take that as a massive complement

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:01

oh and noone has said 'Homegirl' for years.... I'm mortified for you

notsoteenagemum · 07/03/2010 14:05

read the urban dictionary have we?

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:08

No it was all on Wikipedia

It's hardly the news of the century. My little sister has said about 10 things are 'so totally gay' in the last 24 hours including her supper, some earrings I bought and at least 4 programmes on TV....

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:10

You don't have to be 'down with the kids' or any other frightful expression, but just know a few! Then you might see that actually most people are not actually that uptight

notsoteenagemum · 07/03/2010 14:11

There are many terms the youth have supposedly claimed it doesn't mean it's big or clever to use them.

notsoteenagemum · 07/03/2010 14:15

You must be a bad influence on your little sister then.
Glad you think your expression is frightful, I am probably the least uptight person you could meet just find that particular term inappropriate, offensive and common.

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:16

OMG It was joke! It's not like saying. 'If you call your child Louis he will definetly turn out to be a homosexual'

I said the name was girly and rubbish. Seriously who actually thinks a name could make you homosexual It's a very poncy name IMO and that is all.

It's a name.... not a person!

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:18

I said 'down with the kids' was frightful. That expression was all your own.... shudder.

Mumcentreplus · 07/03/2010 14:20

where I live Louis is very popular... Noah not so much..I like them both..considered Noah as one of my boys names before DDs were born

StrictlyKatty · 07/03/2010 14:21

Oh and my sister is a TEENAGER as if she learns anything from me right now! She picks up what she picks up from College, her friends, TV. She does not have a single fibre of a homophobic thought in her body, she's just a teenager who talks like a teenager.
