What do you mean by 'they are all the rage in certain circles'?

Noah may get more popular but Louis has been decreasing in popularity. It was in the top 40 when I named DD 6 years ago!

I think I'm swaying towards Louis.

Love both and don't agree that Noah is too popular, there is only one in our childrens school of 500.

bananamumma · 05/03/2010 21:44

There are no Louis or Noahs in DD's year at school. Not sure about the whole school but have not heard of either name there!

Noah is my favourite

Don't like Louis, reminds me of Louise and may get lou for short. also, some people will think it's lewis.

Thomas...OK but boring
Eli...too girly, will get Ellie
Theo...like it
Charlie....like but far too popular

NadiaWadia · 06/03/2010 02:31

Louis is lovely specially pronounced the French way.

Really don't like Noah although I know its very popular now. Reminds me of the creepy character in 'David Copperfield' (Noah Claypole?)

jabberwocky · 06/03/2010 02:44

Noah

StrictlyKatty · 06/03/2010 19:50

Louis pronounced 'Louie' is my single most hated name of all time. It's sounds babyish, very gay and girly. I really really really HATE it!

Noah on the other hand is a lovely name. Really beautiful sound and a lovely story to go with it.

TheCrackFox · 06/03/2010 20:01

"...very gay...."

lovechoc · 06/03/2010 20:09

LOL @ strictlykatty. that's the kind of comment DH would come out with when we discuss baby names like Noah or Louis.

yumimummi · 06/03/2010 20:26

Noah - definitely. Louis sounds drippy totally agree with strictlykatty!

newmum265 · 06/03/2010 20:34

Louis for definate. Its so cute. Love Charlie too.

StrictlyKatty · 06/03/2010 22:21

Isn't Louis the name of the dancer/manager on Pineapple Dance Studios? That is exactly how I imagine Louis, sorry but it's true

bananamumma · 06/03/2010 22:31

So you're saying that A) Male dancers are gay and B) Male dancers have 'gay' names?

OP posts:
TheCrackFox · 06/03/2010 22:39

What would be so bad about having a gay son anyway? StrictlyKatty, I think you are a touch homophobic.

TheCrackFox · 06/03/2010 22:42

My late uncle was gay and also called Edward. Is that a gay name? He wasn't a dancer but a professor in physics. Is that a gay profession?

saintlydamemrsturnip · 06/03/2010 22:46

I have a Louis. Most people pronounce it correctly, only an occasional Lewis. He has a friend called Noah- I like that name too. I couldn't care less whether he was gay (would rather like at least one of the boys to be tbh) but I suspect his brother is more likely to be. Actually I strongly suspect they're all heterosexual :disappointed:

bananamumma · 06/03/2010 23:06

Loosemo I'm currently watching Louis Theroux on TV.. He's great isn't he!

OP posts:
bananamumma · 06/03/2010 23:08

..and I'm pretty sure he's striaght ;)

I echo what the PPs said though.. I wouldn't give two hoots if my son was gay.

OP posts:
bananamumma · 06/03/2010 23:33

Just googled Mr Theroux and he is Louis Sebastian. I Like!

He has two sons Albert and Frederick. Again, I like!

yumimummi · 07/03/2010 08:50

just realised I agreed with a 'gay name' comment - unintentional meant that I just dislike the name Louis.

redwhiteandblue · 07/03/2010 10:16

Certain circles - I don't know where you live bananamumma but in London I'd say they were very Crouch End, East Dulwich, liberal, trendy, Mind you we live in a very non-liberal trendy area and there are still a decent handful of both

But call your ds what you like

at comments about names being "gay"

Am surprised you also don't comment that Noah makes you think of a man with a penchant for animals
FFS

OP - I really like Louis and personally prefer it to Noah, but only because there are a lot of little Noahs round here. The name itself is lovely.

roboski · 07/03/2010 11:28

Louis less fashionable and more of a classic than Noah. For these reasons I would opt for Louis.

lovechoc · 07/03/2010 12:35

No one is being homopohobic, it's just a term to describe a name. It's like saying a girls name is too 'frilly' or a boy's name is too 'macho'. The same can be applied with the term 'gay'. It's got absolutely nothing to do with homophobia! FGS, widen your horizons a bit folks! No one is slagging off gay individuals.
