...Zoe - am considering this and am wondering whether you think it is more popular with one demographic than another or not? What sort of a person is called Zoe?

Thanks!

I know a Zoe, she's about 30 and is sort of middle class and lives in London. Nice name I think and not too popular!

Bucharest · 03/03/2010 10:39

Cornwall has a high % of Zoes compared to the rest of the UK. I consider it to be quite middle class.
It's lovely.

BitOfFun · 03/03/2010 10:44

I know a family with Zoe, Chloe and Joey. They are not posh.

zozzle · 03/03/2010 10:53

BitOfFun - yes rhyming all your kids names is a bit naff IMO. lol!!

I'd imagine a Zoe to come from a literary, arty background and to be very pretty. I don't know why.

nickytwotimes · 03/03/2010 11:15

ZOe is a lovely name.

Bit boho, middle class-ish, arty stuff at uni, that sort of thing.

BessieBoots · 03/03/2010 11:16

Zoe is a lovely purple name.
Where did that synesthesia thread go? [wink?]

bellissima · 03/03/2010 11:36

I have a niece Zoe aged 5. Also know one in her mid 40s.

I know a little girl called Zoe. Middle class family, live in London suburbs.

weegiemum · 03/03/2010 11:49

I know a Zoe, lives in the Highlands, is a Botanist.

Sums it up for me!

cyteen · 03/03/2010 11:58

I know one, early 30s, she's an actor/creative type living in boho splendour and a lovely friend

zozzle · 03/03/2010 12:07

It's interesting that the creative/arty link is coming through here. Thinking about it yes - all the famous Zoes that spring to my mind are all writers or actors!! Or daughters of singers/prima ballerinas! With the odd sports person called Zoe thrown in!!

I know a lovely 12 yo Zoë. She is sensible, mature and intelligent. Daughter of an academic and a solitor turned naturopath.

HalcyonDaze · 03/03/2010 12:30

The only Zoe I know is in my dd's class at school. Shes mouthy and a bully and her family are quite rough. Maybe it's more to do with where I live as I think it's a pretty classless name tbh.

I would say: was quite "chic", but has slided down through the classes. Nowaday it is quite classless.

sweetkitty · 03/03/2010 13:22

I know a 3yo Zoe who is lovely
a 4yo from quite a rough family you would say

Another 5yo who is lovely too.

I do like it as a name

zozzle · 03/03/2010 13:45

Pasiphae - yes I guess that tends to happen to most names over the years - they slide through the classes. I even know a quite rough Amelia!

Am happy to go with a classless name but not a chav one if you get my drift. I don't really do try hard middle class names.

Keep thoughts coming on Zoe...

The only thing that's a bit negative about Zoe is that it tends to be very hard to understand, pronounce and spell for foreigners. The Zoe I know was a work colleague, we spent a lot of time on the phone to clients abroad, and she was forever saying "It's Zoe. ZOE. Z - O - E !"

StrictlyKatty · 03/03/2010 17:48

The Zoe I know is pretty, rich and very very clever. Age 26.

Great name.

Love the name Zoe, to me it doesn't betray much re class, race, region etc -just a pretty timeliess name good on little girls and career women alike

BikeRunSki · 03/03/2010 19:05

My sister is a 35 year old Zoe and exactly as Nickytwotimes has described!

AllieW · 03/03/2010 19:29

Have never met a Zoe so I associate it with the EastEnders character. I quite like the name but with the umlaut (which I have no clue how to do on here) on the e since that helps to clarify the pronunciation.
