I was thinking that names like
Alma, Daphne and Shirley may be the next to be revived since they're fairly old-fashioned and yet pretty.

Any other suggestions?

Oh no - my nearly 3 year old is called Amos! I dont want it to be the new Noah!

ChynaDoll2006 · 01/03/2010 09:29

Deborah?

yellowflowers · 01/03/2010 10:06

tummytickler, every Angela I have ever met has been a complete bitch - my theory is that is because they are told they are angelic from the beginning and never try hard to be nice. Huge apologies if your child (or you) are called Angela - I am sure you are lovely. [runs away and hides]. And to offend the people I have not offended already - I haven't met many nice Charlottes.

rachel234 · 01/03/2010 10:23

I've got a 4 year old Quentin. We didn't know any others when he was born. Now it seems to be becoming quite popular - hope it won't be too 'trendy'.

loobylu3 · 01/03/2010 10:24

Yes- agree with Audrey (think it's popular in The States already), plus Constance, Mabel, Dorothy/ Dorothea- all lovely names.

yellowflowers- I've only ever met nice Angelas and Charlottes!

onebadbaby · 01/03/2010 10:28

Joyce is so pretty- my auntie Joyce died last year so that would be lovely.

yellowflowers · 01/03/2010 10:30

hi loobylu3 - I know, it is probably just me. Possibly I bring out the worst in them... or it just the ones in my part of town. I would love to know but am obviously too scared to start thread on this, what names other people associate with bitches.

Flightattendant · 01/03/2010 10:40

Yellowflowers, Angelas hate me too.

In all I would rather name my child something unusual than something pretty. It's like SoH said on another thread, it's like turning up to a party in your favourite dress and finding seven other people are wearing the same thing.

onebadbaby · 01/03/2010 10:40

I agree- Angela, especially Angie creates a bitchy image in my mind.
Also Rita, Tracey, Sharon, Yvonne, Andrea,

Flightattendant · 01/03/2010 10:42

When I was growing up, all the worst people I met were called Rachel. It went on for years, but I have finally met one I like and seem to get on with...bizarre.

Why does that happen?

yellowflowers · 01/03/2010 11:40

Phew - pleased not just me (unless we all know the same ones!) Maybe the association is Ange in Eastenders?

I like Rachels on the whole.

I don't know about girls but I for boys I have never met a horrible Robin.

shoobidoo · 02/03/2010 09:46

I recently met a baby Stephen - that is quite rare these days...

jellybeans · 02/03/2010 13:51

I think names popular in the US/AUS will get more popular, maybe Cooper, Riley, Hunter, Bailey etc. For girls, Aubrey/Audrey, Myla, Miley, Charli, Elsa, Edie.

Quiltingmama · 02/03/2010 19:27

I am considering Violet...but there is a VERY rude Prince song with Violet as the main character that DH always pipes up with so it may not happen. Eileen and Margaret are my mother and MIL names respectively so if its a girl I'm sorted now!

BessieBoots · 02/03/2010 19:35

I love the name Stephen.

Also, Hilda says strong, sassy and smiley to me.

I've thought Ada was due a revival for ages.

shoobidoo · 03/03/2010 12:34

Ada is nice and is a lovely alternative to Eva/Evie.

bluemonkey123 · 03/03/2010 14:49

I like Beatrice (my great grandmothers name) unfortunately DH doesn't. I do think that'll be on the popular lists though - if it's not already and I hate faddy names (trying to be different for the sake of being different)

Other family names of that generation are totally uninspiring to me - Pamela, Patricia, Jane, Ruby, Debbie

Northernlurker · 03/03/2010 18:54

Beatrice is the only one of my daughter's names to be in the top 100. I suspect it will be like my own name - Eleanor. Eleanors of my age (early 30s) are not common but child Eleanors, Nells, Ellas and Ellies are abundant! I don't mind that. As long as dd3 is sharing her class with 5 other Beas I don't mind how many she ends up teaching or doctoring or whatever in future years

Northernlurker · 03/03/2010 18:54

isn't sharing that should be!
