Hi everyone I'm new here!

Just wanted to see what you thought of Scirocco for a girl? I am aware it is a VW, but the name came first! Apparently it is Italian for warm breeze.

Personally I love it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't sound ridiculous!

No. Its a car that rusted very badly in the 80s and was discontinued. The new version they just brought out looks bland.

If it's car names you like, what about Marina?

I knew someone who called her DDs Sequoia (a redwood tree) and errr Tsunami. Yes really.

Scirocco is not quite as bad but I think it does bring the car to mind.

It makes me think of the car. But also brings to mind names like Rocco and Roxy, neither of which I like. So no.

A Scirocco is not a warm breeze - it is a horrible howling hot gale. Often containing stinging red dust. Very nasty indeed. And hard to spell and pronounce.

a double cc in Italian is a 'ch' sound in English so Scirocco (I think) is actually SCIROTCHO

schee rocco is quite a hard sound i think.

also, it sounds like a boy's name.... well, no it doesn't. but i'd guess that a human Scirocco were a boy.

What about Mistral!? or Scimitar!? Princess Anne used to drive a Scimitar (apparently.... comes up in pub quizzes occasionally )

It's pronounced Schi-rocco. But it's not a name for a child under any circumstances.

Okay then, what about Socorro, means 'help' and its a Roman Catholic name. I'm not Catholic or Spanish but oh well.
