Chloe

This is a name I have always loved, but I ruled it out when I read how popular it is - however, I have never actually heard of anyone calling their child Chloe. Is it really so popular? And is it more popular amongst certain demographics?

I adore this name and know no one called Chloe - except the perfume!! Do you know you are having a girl? Don't worry about the demographics!! I have two DS if I had a girl I would have called her Jemima - you can have it if you want (the name) x

DD (13months) is called Chloe and we haven't met any others around her age. I suppose it must be very popular somewhere as its always very high up the popular names lists but it hasn't been a problem for us and we always get nice comments about her name.

nigglewiggle · 15/02/2010 16:43

It's lovely and I don't know of any first-hand either. Where are all these Chloes?

Ziggurat · 15/02/2010 16:47

I know a couple. Not sure which demographic favours it.

HellBent · 15/02/2010 16:48

My DN is called Chloe, I don't know any others. I think it was very popular about 5 years ago.

diddl · 15/02/2010 17:07

I have a relative in their 20s.
Only one I know.
It is a lovely name.

Bucharest · 15/02/2010 17:08

It was the top girls' name a few years back, so I reckon all these Chloes will be about 10-15.
The ones I know are.

23skidoo · 15/02/2010 17:23

Loads of chavs are called Chloe, I live in an underprivaliged area and know at least 5 people my own age with that name.

CelticStarlight · 15/02/2010 17:34

My niece is 12 and she is a Chloe but there are dozens of Chloes her age - SIL chose it when it was still quite unusual but within 6 months it was everywhere. It's still a very pretty name though.

Bonsoir · 15/02/2010 17:39

There are lots Chloés in France... it's a bit ubiquitous and not très chic.

usualsuspect · 15/02/2010 17:46

I think its a pretty name

It's a shame if it has become chavvy, because it is such a lovely name. I always thought Sharon was a lovely-sounding name, but there is no escaping it has certain connotations that are worth considering when naming a child.

I know lots of Chloe's between the ages of 9 and 12 (could name 8 just off the top of my head) but I don't know of any little Chloe's.

I think it's a beautiful name and FWIW all the Chloes that I know are lovely lovely girls - not the least bit 'chavvy'.

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 16/02/2010 10:50

I know 2 Chloes ; 1 aged 10 and 1 aged 2

diddl · 16/02/2010 11:30

OP, people are "chavvy" imo, not names.

There may be some "chavvy" Chloes out there.

That doesn´t follow that all Chloes are chavvy.

If you love it, use it!

I only know one. It is not nearly as popular as Jack. The girls number one name needs to be used far fewer times to be the number one name than the boys name. I think.. could be wrong, but this is what I suspect.

I like it.

MaggieMaeve · 16/02/2010 12:08

Bonsoir, what about Sylvie and Zoe? How are they perceived in France? (They sound beautiful to me so I am not sure why I am asking what French people think!)

Bucharest · 16/02/2010 12:37

It might not be as popular as Jack, but I always imagine them to be a sibset!

Bonsoir · 16/02/2010 13:56

www.bebe-prenoms.com/pages/prenom-sylvie-18582.htmlSylvie is quite old fashioned these days. I don't know any little girls or young women called Sylvie - they are mostly of my generation. It would sound boring to contemporary ears. It was never terribly chic, either.

www.bebe-prenoms.com/pages/prenom-zoe-20485.htmlZoé has been getting quite popular in recent years! I think it's lovely - it's my mother's first name (she is English, of course) and my DD's third name - we were careful to ensure all her names worked equally well in both languages.

asdx2 · 16/02/2010 14:06

Lots of Chloes around here seemed to be popular 14 years ago as there was a glut of them when dd was at primary. I think Emily was the name that superceded it tbh.

MaggieMaeve · 16/02/2010 17:13

wow, i looked at that sylvie graph. very sharp spike circa 1968...

LadyOfTheFlowers · 17/02/2010 15:39

Only know one Chloe - DN aged 7.

4sophia · 17/02/2010 18:29

It's quite chavvy around here. In the same league as Jayden, Tyler, Kacey, Stacey, Lacey etc. So personally I wouldn't use it, sorry!

Oh and type 'chavvy names' in google and it's in the first DM article.
