Genevieve, Hermione or Kismet?

These are the final three names which we have (finally) decided on!

Could you list them in your order of preference please?

Middle names would also be very welcome for any one of the three!

Thanks. . .

Genevieve
Hermione
Kismet

I would go for a more traditional middle name personally as the first names are very unusual x

Ewe · 22/01/2010 19:33

Genevieve
Hermione
Kismet (not keen at ALL to be honest)

cakeywakey · 22/01/2010 19:34

As above. Although I'd rather have a list of one - Genevieve How about Violet as a middle name, or would that be too many 'v's'?

janeite · 22/01/2010 19:37

I like Hermione. I really don't like Kismet.

Hermione Claire
Hermione Joy
Hermione Faith
Hermione Belle
Hermione Claudette
Hermione Celeste

Ziggurat · 22/01/2010 19:39

Kismet? Are you sure?

LetThereBeRock · 22/01/2010 19:41

Genevieve is ok,and the other two are equally bad.

sowhatitsonlysnow · 22/01/2010 19:47

I'm (probably wrongly) assuming this is a joke.....please tell me it is. I wouldn't choose any of those.

MrsBadger · 22/01/2010 19:51

Hermione

Genevieve

Kismet

(clear enough?)

MayorNaze · 22/01/2010 19:53

genevieve, either pronounciation.

hermione - forever associated with harry potter

kismet - are you arabic? cos if not, then perhaps not.

Genevieve or Hermoine, both pretty imo.

Never ever Kismet. And why do camels come to mind?

seeker · 22/01/2010 19:55

I was just going to do that, MrsBadger!

I'm assuming that Kismet was put there to make sure we're awake. I have done similar things with children I am tutoring, to make sure they've read the question!

MummyThimble · 22/01/2010 19:56

DH is from Turkey. In his language, it means faith and destiny and is something which he is keen on. I am not so, but am humouring him.

LetThereBeRock - I am sad you think that my names are a joke and I promise I am not making it up.

Genevieve is pretty, Hermione at a push. The curry shop at the end of our street is called the Kismet

LetThereBeRock · 22/01/2010 19:57

I think you're confusing me with SoWhatItsOnlySnow.

MayorNaze · 22/01/2010 19:58

in that case kismet would be fine. it is only if you are mr and mrs boden then kismet is

sowhatitsonlysnow · 22/01/2010 19:59

Yes, hands up it was me. Did not mean to offend but it is my honest opinion....you did ask......

MummyThimble · 22/01/2010 20:00

Sorry, LetThereBeRock - I must have read the wrong name!

Hermione is one of my favourite names, you shouldn't be afraid to use it.

Genevieve is cool as well.

I'm not so keen on Kismet, but at the end of the day it's your child and thats just my opinion. It has a lovely meaning though.

How about Hermione Genevieve if you like them both.

Hermione Elizabeth
Genevieve Joy

scottishmummy · 22/01/2010 20:50

Genevieve,
Hermione
not kismet sounds like cheap perfume.too close to kermit also

gizmo · 22/01/2010 20:52

Hmmm,

I shall declare an interest: I am a Hermione. It has pros and cons: it's a hard name to make a diminutive out of, and if you have a polysyllabic surname it's going to be a hell of a mouthful.

Even with Harry Potter, your daughter is going to have to spend an awful lot of time spelling it. It's also one of those names where people will instantly assume you have a loud, RP, voice and total familiarity with the inner workings of a hockey stick. Both of which I have, fortunately, so it suits me fine.

However, I do think it's quite a pretty name and not one that is likely to become massively common - if that matters to you.

Genevieve, on the other hand, although it shares the spelling problem, can be shortened in any number of pretty ways and doesn't carry quite the baggage of Hermione. So it would probably get my vote. Kismet, sadly, is just a curry house to me - considered in isolation it could be a very pretty name, but it will forever have the whiff of the tandoor about it.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 22/01/2010 21:01

I like Gizmo's analysis.

If you and DH really like Kismet but don't want your daughter to have a lifetime of this sort of response, you could maybe use Kismet as a middle name -- would that work? Genevieve Kismet?

randomimposter · 22/01/2010 21:03

LOVE Genevieve
Not keen on Hermione
Really dislike Kismet

Genevieve Eliza/Rosanna/Hope/Grace

MrsToffeeCrisp · 22/01/2010 21:06

I love Hermione and if DS had been a DD we would have used it, Hermione Louise was our choice.
