Genevieve, Hermione or Kismet?

These are the final three names which we have (finally) decided on!

Could you list them in your order of preference please?

Middle names would also be very welcome for any one of the three!

Thanks. . .

Genevieve is great.
Hermione common.
Kismet alternative.

What about Genevieve Hero?

Umami · 22/01/2010 21:14

Kismet is a fabulous musical! Never heard it used as a name, but don't hate it
Love Genevieve (Jenny)
Love Hermione but yes, will always be a Harry Potter name to me now!

HollyGoHeavily · 22/01/2010 21:16

Love love love Genevieve! Beautiful name and has some good diminutives - Gennie, Evie, Vive

I also like Hermione but I think that it will always be associated with Harry Potter.

Kismet could be a cool middle name - not keen on saddling a child with it as a first name...

mathanxiety · 22/01/2010 21:19

I also love the idea of Kismet as a mn for either Genevieve or Hermione (both so nice I can't choose).

Besom · 22/01/2010 21:21

When I was pregnant with dd I was reading a book with a Genevieve (shortened to Vivi) as the main character and I really liked it and it was on the shortlist.

Hermione is OK but I think Angelina Jolie is having Kismet for her next one.

MumofOscar · 22/01/2010 21:23

I would say Genevieve, Hermione lovely names. Not so keen on Kismet.

HOWEVER

When shortened (as they probably will be at some point at least) Gennie is great, Hermy but Kissy (pronounced i imagine kizzy) is really lovely!

So there, a vote for Kismet.

allthatjazz · 23/01/2010 10:03

I LOVE Hermoine
Genevieve is ok but couldnt be swayed from Hermoine
Kismet is lovely in terms of honouring your DP and his background. I would probably use it as a middle name though

SqueezyB · 23/01/2010 18:12

I think given your DH is Turkish so there is a background to it then Kismet is actually quite a nice name - Kizzy for short is cute. However hate to say it but we also have a Kismet curry house nearby, so if it's a popular name for indian takeaway shops maybe think again...

seeker · 23/01/2010 18:42

I know a Hermione - nicknamed Mi - pronounced My. I really like that!

juneybean · 23/01/2010 18:57

How's Kismet pronounced? I think it looks pretty on paper.

JaynieB · 23/01/2010 19:05

I rather like Kismet, but tis alternative.

lauralou1 · 23/01/2010 19:07

hi i think kismet is a lovely name my husband is also turkish
we called our little girl derya its a kurdish name and means ocean

if he wants a turkish name why dont you both go on a turkish names site and pick one together

goodluck

MummyThimble · 23/01/2010 19:15

JuneyBean - Kismet is pronounced 'Kismit' or 'Kismut (putting a slight 'e' sound in with the 'u'). I think it's rather pretty too, it's a shame about all those takeaways!

Thanks for all the opinions so far, I'm still not quite decided!

I was going to say 'G,H, and then K a long way behind', but I'm actually now coming round to 'Kismet' pronouced 'Kismit', and 'Kizzy' for short. Presumably you have a Turkish surname, so a Turkish first name might sound better than an English one. Do you think you could spell it slightly differently to distinguish it from takeaways?

seeker · 23/01/2010 21:51

If Kismet is used as a name in Turkey, then go for it. If it isn't, it's the same as me as an English person calling my child Trancendence or Spirituality.

SE13Mummy · 23/01/2010 22:40

Hermione followed by Genevieve with Kismet as a middle name (or possibly use Faith instead?). Yasmin (jasmine flower) or Sofya (wisdom) might work as Turkish middle names.

nooka · 24/01/2010 02:43

Genevieve is lovely. I don't like Hermione (sounds very whiny, and I wonder about the nn potential - Hermie? Mi? Ony?). Kismet surely isn't a name but a word meaning fate or destiny. I suppose sme peopel have been called Destiny, but in my mind that's not a good name either.

No, Genevieve. Nice name, with nns Gwinny (I love) or Jenny. Although having read the rest of the thread and seen the Turkish connection, possibly Kismet (and Kizzy is rather nice).

CheerfulYank · 24/01/2010 02:50

I think Genevieve Kismet is nice

LadyCressida · 24/01/2010 17:29

Hermione is my middle name and I really like it so I am very tempted to use it as such if my baby is a girl. But I can't think of any nn that I like so prob wouldn't use it for a first name.

Genevieve is nice.

Not keen on Kismet - sorry.

Two4One · 24/01/2010 19:06

Call her Susan and stop being pretentious.

OneWeekToGo · 17/02/2012 08:05

Kismet was a horse in one of my gran's 1960s Girl Annuals. I actually quite like it, but for a boy (half a vote?!)

Stellan · 17/02/2012 12:07
  1. Hermione
  2. Genevieve
  3. Kismet

I really like the sound of 'Kismet' but I think it's a name for a pet, not a daughter.

Frontpaw · 17/02/2012 12:13

I thought Kismet meant fate (as in the historically inaccurate 'Kismet, Hardy')..

LaFilleSurLePont · 17/02/2012 12:37

Zombie thread people.

PopcornBiscuit · 17/02/2012 19:03

Hermione by a long way.
