What are your honest thoughts?

Juliette - what spelling would you choose Juliet/Juliette?

Eugenie - Not overly used, sounds pretty to my ears pn Eu-zjen-ie, am I missing something?

Thanks!

I prefer Juliet. Only because I worked with a Eugenie and she was lovely but I never felt like I was pronouncing her name right and it felt a bit rude to keep asking!

Fayrazzled · 21/01/2010 12:45

I don't like Eugenie at all- "looks" ugly to me. I much prefer Juliette with that spelling.

MrsJamin · 21/01/2010 12:49

I love Eugenie, really unusual but pretty. Genie is a lovely NN too.

Fayrazzled I know what you mean. Eugenie does look a bit ugly - but it sounds nice! I was never a big fan of the name before but now it is really growing on me. It is definitely on the list.

With Juliet, do you instantly think of Romeo?

Juliet - it's feminine but not twee. Classic. I don't think of Romeo instantly

Eugenie is a bit posh - which is OK if you are posh. Are you posh ? . You'll also have problems with spelling and pronunciation, I think

Doozie · 21/01/2010 14:16

No not posh, and definitely don't won't to be seen as trying too hard. So Eugenie not a name for the masses? Juliet/Juliette - not the same problem?

Eugenie is gorgeous. I pronounce it 'YOU-zhay-nay'. The Duchess of York says that she pronounces it (her daughter's name) as 'Use yer knee'. Which somehow isn't so nice!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 21/01/2010 14:24

Doozie I would agree with that.

Doozie · 21/01/2010 14:31

Thanks Jamie - I still like it though! Will be checking with dh if there is any blue blood on his side of the family (along with some hidden wealth..)

Vivia - 'YOU-zhay-nay' - I love it!!

I like them both. I think they're pretty.

mathanxiety · 21/01/2010 15:14

Both lovely; I would use the JULIET spelling.

amandine07 · 13/05/2010 19:52

I prefer the spelling Juliette, I think it looks prettier than Juliet, in any case it's a beautiful name!

twolittlemonkeys · 13/05/2010 19:54

Juliet (no extra te on the end) Eugenie just sounds like you're trying a bit too hard IMHO

bigstripeytiger · 13/05/2010 19:54

I like Juliet.

Ishoglomo · 13/05/2010 19:56

I think Juliet is a very pretty name (don't see any need for an extra "te").

Not keen on Eugenie, prefer Jenny.

SillyTillyBilly · 13/05/2010 20:03

Juliet/Juliette is lovely. I think I prefer Juliet but both are pretty. I don't like Eugenie as it is too close to eugenics which makes me think of nazis.

brimfull · 13/05/2010 20:05

Juliette spelling is poncy imo
Juliet is fab

I also like Eugenie.

not much help sorry

Lonnie · 13/05/2010 20:53

I like the both

prefeer Juliette just like the ette ending

Magaly · 13/05/2010 20:56

Juliet. Much prefer it spelled this way.

eugenie is lovely too.

Poledra · 13/05/2010 21:03

I love Juliet, and no, I don't instantly think of Romeo. I've known 2 lovely Juliets, so it makes me think of them and they were just great In fact, I'd have used it except it didn't go well with our surname.

Not fond of Eugenie.

Magaly · 13/05/2010 21:06

Juliets are always lovely. Juliettes are harder on the nerves. ime.

No offence to any Juliettes. I'm sure I don't know you

Magaly · 13/05/2010 21:06

I thought of Bravo

birdofthenorth · 14/05/2010 10:00

Love Juliette/ Juliet (slightly prefer the latter spelling -simple and elegant).

Sorry to say I really dislike Eugenie, sounds both ugly and try-hard to me (sorry!)

swanandduck · 14/05/2010 13:26

Juliette is lovely.

I think Eugenie is a very dreary, ugly name.
