What do you think of Lavinia, Katerina or Honor?

Also which spelling of Katerina do you think is the more 'correct' spelling - with a C or a K?

Thanks.

I like Honor.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/12/2009 19:36

Honor

HallelujahHeisBorntoMary · 30/12/2009 19:36

Katerina, with a K.

CeeUnit · 30/12/2009 19:37

Katerina, but surname is also a factor.

JaneiteQuiteRight · 30/12/2009 19:37

Honor.

Sesi · 30/12/2009 19:40

I thought the 'K' was probably right for Katerina if i'm correct in thinking that it's originally from the Russian name Ekaterina?

Just know the K/C thing is a critical thing to get right. A lot of Irish names look bad with a K but lovely with a C for example.

Honor

Cannot stand Lavinia

JingleAllTheWay · 30/12/2009 19:45

Lavinia - it is fab

Matchingcardiganandtop · 30/12/2009 19:45

Lavinia, I know a Lavinia and she is lovely.

poinsettydawg · 30/12/2009 19:49

Honor

Chunkyrice · 30/12/2009 19:54

Lavinia is a pretty name, but Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus springs to mind - she was defiled, amputated and later in the play killed out of pity by her father.

Katherina, with an h is great.

Honor is great also. Though may have to repeat spelling to people hearing it for the first time or 'without an u' all the time.

tummytickler · 30/12/2009 20:05

Definately Honor.

lamg · 30/12/2009 20:36

Honor is a wonderful name. Classic, underused, travels well and altogether a beautiful name. Definitely go for Honor.

oliviasmama · 30/12/2009 21:27

lavinia and honour a very close second, they are both lovely, really dont like katerina

Sesi · 30/12/2009 22:06

I've just read the synopsis of the Shakesphere play after reading Chunkyrice's post and wow it's a grim story. Maybe Lavinia isn't such a good idea after all...

I was thinking of Lavinia as a Roman name, but more well read people are going to get the Shakesphere connection.

Honor maybe a better choice, glad to hear it travels well, I like Katerina partly because it's a name that seems to be familiar in a lot of European countires.

mathanxiety · 31/12/2009 07:07

I love Honor, Katerina second, then Lavinia.
Lavinia has Lav as nn potential...

MamaLazarou · 31/12/2009 08:56

I like Katerina and Honor. Both lovely names. I have known Lavinias and they do get shortened to Lav.

tinalane · 31/12/2009 09:04

Katerina definitely.

(And I knew a lovely Katerina once).

BarbieLovesKen · 31/12/2009 09:22

Katerina is beautiful. Definately with a K though.

I like Honor too, really lovely but still prefer Katerina.

Dont like Lavinia tbh.

mummy2WLH · 31/12/2009 09:39

I LOVE the name Honor, it is my DD's name and everyone has been very complimentary about our choice!

bellissima · 31/12/2009 09:55

Another vote for Honor.

Lavinia - not sure, sounds quite nice but has such a kind of '1950s jolly hockeysticks' feel to it.

Much prefer Katherine/Kate to Katerina - unless you are actually Russian/E European it sounds like you are trying to put (unnecessary) bells and whistles on a lovely name.

paulaplumpbottom · 31/12/2009 09:57

Wasn't Lavinia the mean girl in the Little Princess?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 31/12/2009 09:57

Katerina with a K.

EldonAve · 31/12/2009 09:58

I prefer Honor
