Opinions/thoughts please.

What do you think of Stanley, known as Stan?

I think its such a lovely name for a little boy - but can't imagine a baby called Stanley, its such a grown up name! Go for it

MamaLazarou · 07/12/2009 11:22

Like it.

LetThereBeRock · 07/12/2009 11:24

Awful.

5inthesleighbed · 07/12/2009 11:24

My dad is called Stanley, wouldn't think of calling a child it. I'd keep thinking of a short balding old bloke.

Blu · 07/12/2009 11:27

I think it's sweet - definitley one of those newly refreshed names, along with Reggie.

gagamama · 07/12/2009 11:34

I know a little Stanley, but I think of it as a comedy name TBH. Chosen because it was funny rather than lovely. That's probably just me though!

doubleexpresso · 07/12/2009 11:35

I just can't imagine holding a beautiful newborn and saying 'Let's call him Stanley'. To me, Stanley has to be said in a broad Northern accent and it's forever an old man's name. Obviuosly, lots of people disagree with me, but I can't get my head around it.

50ftChristmasTree · 07/12/2009 11:35

I love love love it. Fabulous name.

birdofthenorth · 07/12/2009 12:34

I usually love names of this generation but Stanley for a baby REALLY doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. Just toooooo old man in a flat cap propping up the bar! Sorry

mathanxiety · 07/12/2009 15:26

I prefer Stanislaus.

hatebeak · 07/12/2009 16:44

I know a few little Stanleys - I think it's quite popular now.

campion · 07/12/2009 19:14

Popular doesn't equal good.
Britney's quite popular in some circles.

LaDiDaDi · 07/12/2009 20:14

Hmm, thought it would get mixed opinions.

We are really struggling to agree on anything.

Hope he comes with a name tag attached!

not a name I'd choose I'm afraid. Too old-mannish for me...

MitchyInge · 08/12/2009 15:35

EVERYONE is called Stanley in my family, therefore nobody is - silly nicknames instead

(everyone except the girls I mean)

jellybeans · 08/12/2009 16:33

Too old-mannish for me too, sorry! I really dislike it.

Clary · 08/12/2009 16:35

Love Stanley.

DH not keen.

Also like Alfred, Albert, Arthur, Sidney, Frederick, George. All names from WW1 war memorials (ie popular 100 years ago).

50ftChristmasTree · 08/12/2009 17:50

DD would have been Albert with Bertie as a nickname if she had been a he.

SmacOnTheLipsUnderTheMistletoe · 08/12/2009 18:27

not keen, sorry.

nooka · 09/12/2009 06:42

Flat?

izzybiz · 09/12/2009 07:23

I love it but wasn't brave enough to use it as Ds2's first name, he is George Stanley.

JingleAllTheWay · 09/12/2009 07:27

Very popular and trendy where we are - know one aged 2 and one aged 3, both nn Stan. It is very cute though, but def not uncommon

2Shoots · 09/12/2009 07:29

Stanley Yelnats is the main character in HOLES

crockydoodle · 09/12/2009 08:04

We have a Benjamin Stanley

CornishKK · 09/12/2009 08:08

Love it. It was on my boys list but DH said NO it's an old man's name. He turned down Arthur on the same grounds. Boring old fart!
