Have decided on Clementine Pearl.
Made the mistake of telling people and have had one or two comments of "How seasonal!"

What do you think?
General thoughts and comments on the name would be appreciated too. We received another comment that it was fashionable at the moment too?

I know we shouldn't listen to people, but forewarned....

Love it! I have a Clementine, I never think of her as a seasonal orange though....

I am however slightly put out that the song that the older generation insist on singing to me/her is about someone dying!! Please don't let that put you off though, my Clem is full of fun.

Loving Pearl too, we went through Rose, Jane, Mae... never thought of Pearl!

mummyloveslucy · 29/11/2009 19:07

Well I think it's lovely. You could have chosen Holly belle, now that would be seasonal.

Northernlurker · 29/11/2009 19:11

Ehhh? Ehhh? Am I being amazingly dense but what is the problem about two nouns?

BlueBumedFly · 29/11/2009 19:15

.... well, you could argue it is not two nouns if you take the name from its source as in 'Clemency' and forget the small orange for a minute....

God I need some wine..... I am boring myself silly.....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 29/11/2009 19:17

Look, it's not Kettle Jellybean is it ?

catinthehat2 · 29/11/2009 19:31

Quite like Clementine Pearl in all seriousness. She would look like this

mathanxiety · 29/11/2009 20:04

Clementine as a girls' name comes from the name Clement, surely? Which is not a noun.

HerHonesty · 29/11/2009 20:07

not to my taste. really really dont like pearl.

OrmIrian · 29/11/2009 20:08

It's quite nice. Although I prefer Clemency. Not that keen on Pearl.

DiamondHead · 29/11/2009 20:12

I think it's lovely

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 29/11/2009 20:21

Congratulations!
I really like it.
I don't usually like Pearl, but the combination is lovely.

teafortwo · 29/11/2009 20:26

I love it and think it is a terribly poetic for a winter baby...

CitizenPrecious · 29/11/2009 20:29

I never come on baby name threads, but I've made an exception here because I think this one is utterly lovely!

teafortwo · 29/11/2009 20:30

I love it and think it is a terribly poetic NAME for a winter baby...

(Note to self - stop changing your sentence formation seconds before posting it always ends in a mess!)

ilovepiccolina · 29/11/2009 20:36

It's totally gorgeous, and it would never occur to me that it's seasonal.

Clementine Churchill, was she Winston's wife?

My Grandad used to sing 'My darling Clementine' to me. I loved it, but always thought the words of the song are rather... odd Might be worth googling just so you're pre-warned.

ilovepiccolina · 29/11/2009 20:39

Lol @ Satsuma Rudolf. But Satusuma's for a gilr, no? What about Satsuma Holly?

Sprout Rudolf for a boy

hannahsaunt · 29/11/2009 20:49

I adore Clementine and would have it for ours but it would be rubbish with our surname - go for it.

Hate Pearl though. Sorry.

madlizzi · 29/11/2009 21:05

i think you have chosen a beautiful individual name, i/m sure your littleone will be just the same. lots of love xx

hobbgoblin · 29/11/2009 21:08

Clementine and possible use of Clemmie are lovely. Pearl is not one of the retro names I'd go for but is a lovely name nonetheless.

teafortwo · 29/11/2009 21:17

IMHO it is nice to have a name that is a reference to the time of year you were born. These sort of names make me think of people who are earthy, genuine and true lovers of life. Having a name that tells a story of the natural rhythms of the land or humanity seems earnest and good. For me Clementine being seasonal is the very thing that is so great about it. I love the sound of the name but it is the poetic seasonal quality that I love most!

MrsJohnDeere · 29/11/2009 21:21

Like Clementine, not keen on Pearl.

I know a baby Clementine, born in the spring iirc. Have never heard anyone suggest that the name was seasonal or say anything derogatory.

hobbgoblin · 29/11/2009 21:50

Oh yes and I totally like the idea of a name having some reference to either time of birth or something else personal and unique to the individual.

My DS2 has Mjolnir as a middle name due to the stormy night upon which he was born

teafortwo · 29/11/2009 23:45

hobbgoblin - Wow! Mjolnir is such a beautiful name for a boy born in a storm. [I am completely impressed emotion!]

catinthehat2 · 29/11/2009 23:50

Let me guess, first name Bilbo.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 30/11/2009 06:24

what a nice post teafortwo. I also think it is nice for names to mean something as well - whether it is seasonal, named after a relative, a person you admire, or a quality eg Mercy.
