Absolutely beautiful. Go for it!

Milliemuffin · 11/11/2009 16:07

I like it but dont think DP would.

Milliemuffin · 11/11/2009 16:08

How would you shorten it though?

bogie · 11/11/2009 16:10

Not sure how I would shorten it, would I need to have a shortened version?
I haven't mentioned this one to dp yet he really wants sophie but I want somthing just a little different.

will - shortened surely. you don't get a choice over how it's shortned remember - their friends do it.

i think its fine - but i think its a '90's' name

southeastastra · 11/11/2009 16:12

is it a boy's name?

bogie · 11/11/2009 16:14

No a girls name

mathanxiety · 11/11/2009 16:30

I love it; why would you want to shorten it?

Buda · 11/11/2009 16:41

A friend has a gorgeous 18 month old Willow. DS is 8 and when friend's DD was born he didn't get the name Willow at all and kept accidentally calling her Wally!

PuppyMonkey · 11/11/2009 16:46

I like it!

bogie · 11/11/2009 17:37

Just mentioned it to DP and he say thats not a name its a tree why not call her oak or birch......

I better start working on him!

ProfYaffle · 11/11/2009 17:41

My dd1 is Willow, it doesn't get shortened by anyone so far as I'm aware.

Takver · 11/11/2009 17:50

I know a male Willow.

MamaLazarou · 11/11/2009 19:12

The fact that my mum has a cat called Willow has not put me off this name - it's beautiful.

KERALA1 · 11/11/2009 22:01

I would only use it if you, DH and all your blood relatives are slender and, well, willowy. There was a Willow at school who was rather dumpy and people did snigger. Feel the same about the ever popular name Grace, heck of a gamble that the child will be graceful, if not the poor thing will be laughed at. I personally wouldnt want to set a child up for that.

mommymeggie · 12/11/2009 16:48

We came so close to naming our daughter Willow but then my husband picked the name Freya and we chose that instead. I love both names and would have been happy with either. Go for it!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 12/11/2009 17:44

I really like it. It has "graceful" connotations

KERALA1 · 12/11/2009 17:46

Yes but what if the child is not graceful?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 12/11/2009 17:57

Good point . Didn't read your post above Kerala !

What if you name your DD Joy and they were a misery-guts ?

morethanyoubargainfor · 12/11/2009 18:05

i love it, and it was a close second to our first choice Raine if our ds was a dd.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 12/11/2009 18:05

Well, my Dd is Willow and one of her other names is Grace and it suits her very well as she's tall and willowy and not at all clumsy at 2.10yo. She even has curly hair

However! even I accidentally call her Willy as did her late Grand mother, which is not at all nice, so think carefully about it.

I called her Willy the other day and she said in a most indignant tone ' I'm NOT a willy!'

KERALA1 · 12/11/2009 18:06

I wouldnt name my dd Joy for that reason. Such a risk! What if she turned out to be a goth?

susie100 · 12/11/2009 18:09

Love it

pigleychez · 12/11/2009 18:09

My friend has just named her newborn Willow. Lovely name.

Do worry about the shortening to Willy though.

birdofthenorth · 13/11/2009 08:51

I think it's gorgeous. Really.

Shorten to Will, Wills or Willa, not Willy!!
