Beautiful, well done!

birdofthenorth · 13/11/2009 09:04

Or maybe shorten to Low or Low-y if you feel the need to shorten at all?!

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 13/11/2009 14:52

Birdofthenorth, believe me when I say that 'Willy' comes out accidentally, it is not what I want to call my daughter! One nn which is quite nice for Willow, but I doubt I will ever use, is Billy/Billie. Exp likes that which is probably why I'll never use it.

mathanxiety · 13/11/2009 15:39

I've met a Willow whose younger sister pronounced it Lil.

GrumpyYoungFogey · 15/11/2009 21:56

Willow:

  1. A sub Lord-of-the-Rings fantasy film from about 1988 which had dwarves in it. I can't remember if Willow was a dwarf or not.

  2. A not-very-nice butter substitute (cf "Flora")

  3. What cricket bats are made of. In adulthood, the old cliche "The gentle thwack of leather on willow" would then conjure unfortunate images of your daughter's sexual proclivities.

yama · 15/11/2009 22:36

I like it.

There was a Willow in 'Buffy' who is now in that 'How I Met Your Mother' sitcom.

Taramuddle · 15/11/2009 22:41

My friend's daughter is called Willow & I love it!

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/11/2009 22:50

My DD is Willow so obviously we liked it. Her friends call her 'Wills' for short.

She would prefer you not to call your DD Willow because she likes it being unusual and it is becoming less so.

I anticipate wails the day we find a mug/plaque/key ring with "Willow" on it.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 15/11/2009 23:01

I too would prefer no one else in the world to call their Dd Willow for the very same reason Moomin, but it is such a pretty name that it is likely to end up very common indeed sadly

branflake81 · 16/11/2009 11:12

no offence to those who have chosen it but I don't really like it. it's a bit....hippyish.

boodleboot · 16/11/2009 11:41

A colleague of mine has just had a Willow Daisy which i think is adorable....

JulesJules · 16/11/2009 11:48

Love it!

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/11/2009 12:21

We are a bit....hippyish.

mrshoneybee · 16/11/2009 13:10

Dave Grohl & his wife Jordyn have a daughter named Harper Willow...I think its a lovely name!

Ignore GrumpyYoungFogey, weird to comment on sexual connatations of an unborn child & totally unnecessary, boo bah humbug.

superbean · 16/11/2009 14:30

I think its a pretty name but I know a few people who have used it for their dogs. That said, people often call their dogs Henry or Freddie so what can you do?!

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 16/11/2009 17:38

...and I'm a bit New Agey...and if you saw my Willow, you'd instantly know it was a suitable name for her!

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/11/2009 18:08

at Solo. See you on the sling threads then!

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 16/11/2009 22:07

Lol! I've just about stopped the sling/baby wearing now. She wants to walk everywhere and at 32lbs...!

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/11/2009 00:10

You just need a different sling, Solo. Or another New Ager.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 17/11/2009 00:20

any recommendations that I can make Moomin? no money to buy another one, but I'd happily make one.

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/11/2009 00:47

Sorry for going OT, bogie but if you like Willow as a name, I think the odds are you might like slings too.

A pod or podaegi, Solo, squashes up small to fit in a bag, quick to put on and great for toddlers who suddenly decide you've made them walk quite far enough.

Secondhand Zidee podaegi are about £40 and I have been told they are not that hard to make as slings go, but sewing name tags is the extent of my skills.

SolosScrapingUpForXmas · 17/11/2009 00:52

Thank you, I'll check that out

bogie · 17/11/2009 08:23

I have the peanut shell, I got it from tkmaxx for £12! DD loves it and it is really really easy to just throw on with one hand (whilst your other hand holds on to both the children and your shopping).

Bogie, is that ok for a 32lb child?

bogie · 17/11/2009 15:24

It say's it is fine up to 36lbs
