My DH really wants this name if DC3 and last is a boy. I had my way with DS and I like the name but it seems too grown up a name for a baby. Am I nuts?

It was our chosen name if DD had been a boy so been on the table for years

A have a friend with a baby Robert. How do you feel about the shortened nickname versions (Robbie, Bobby) if you really don't like Robert for a baby?

Tbh though, they are babies for such a short time in comparison to how long you have to live with a name as an adult. Surely it is better than picking a name that is sweet for a baby, but sounds silly for an adult.

I love Robert but then it is my DBs name. Lots of lovely nicknames too...

I agree it is a very 'normal' name that it is due a come-back in much the same way as Paul, Ian, James, Michael, and the like.

My BIL is called Robert - sometimes shortned to Rob, usually used in full and esp when he was younger.

DH's cousin is also Robert - nn Rob.

Oh, and one of our friends (DH known him since babies) is Robert as well - again nn Rob.

The above are all in 20s or 30s. Not met any little ones yet.

I really don't like the nn Bob/Bobbie/Bert/Bertie personally.

My nephew aged 2 is a Robert and his parents have always called him the full name and it has stuck; I like it. Just correct people if they shorten it.

You are nuts. Robert is fine for any age.

There's a little Robert at my school (very cute!)and I have never heard anyone try to shorten his name.

I'm not keen, not sure why, seems abit dated like Simon, Ian etc. I like Robbie though. I know of two primary age Roberts.

i think Robert is great - Robbie for a baby or little boy, Rob is a cool teenage name and Robert is proper grown up name

and it won't embarrass him when he collects his pension

DS has a nice traditional name and Robert does sound good with our surname so I am reassured

No doubt I'll shorten it into some embarassing baby name if DC3 is a boy - I have done that for the other two and much to their disgust the baby names get churned out occasionally still (they're 8 and 11)

cool name (my brother is a robert- we call him rob)nice and unusual these days for a new baby so you are being very traditional but also a little bit different.
