Not planning to use this as not pg but I rather like it. What do you think?

BunnyLebowski · 03/11/2009 14:53

Not unless you have greek connections I'd say.

Makes me think of Olympia Dukakis who I love!

pureeandpearls · 03/11/2009 15:07

So good I may have to steal it.....

MrsVik · 03/11/2009 15:08

Can't say I'm keen. Makes me think of a mountain - might not be the nicest connotation to live with for a girl who is a little on the chubby side, perhaps? You know how kids can be.

For me it's a little 'out there' for my personal taste.

FabioExtremeAngler · 03/11/2009 15:10

HA HA HA HA HAHAHAHAHAAA

Isn't Olympia where they have the Poncey Cats Show?
And that one where they drag idiots round on ropes and fluff up their hair - y'know, Crufts?

NO no no no no nonon oonooooo.

MitchyInge · 03/11/2009 15:10

might be ok if she turns out horsey?

birdofthenorth · 03/11/2009 19:05

Def not if you end up giving birth in summer 2012!!

Bonsoir · 03/11/2009 19:06

Yes, it's a pretty in a forgivably poncey sort of way.

loobylu3 · 03/11/2009 19:27

Thought it might get a bit of a err mixed reaction! Do you really like is pureeandpearls?

pureeandpearls · 03/11/2009 21:20

I do- have already suggested it to DH (a Classicist) and it's on his shortlist....

twolittlekings · 03/11/2009 21:38

Reminds me of the Olympia exhibition centre - sorry

PestoPyrotechnicsMonster · 03/11/2009 21:40

And her little brother Earl ('s Court)

MortaIWombat · 03/11/2009 21:40

I'm a classicist, but my immediate thought when I read the thread title was Manet's French prostitute!

twolittlekings · 03/11/2009 21:41

pesto

serenity · 03/11/2009 21:42

I know a couple, but they're all Greek. It seems quite middle-aged to me, but that's probably because they all are

sayanything · 03/11/2009 21:47

Yup, it's very frumpy and old-fashioned in Greek too. And I can't think of any nice nicknames either - Oly? Pia?

Sorry.

MrsBadger · 03/11/2009 22:02

not if you;re a Londoner, live anywhere near London or ever go there

Octavia is better

loobylu3 · 03/11/2009 22:16

Haven't heard of the Olympia exhibition centre. Puree- I was just asking because I remembered you had a DD called Cecily and I do too. I guess we have v similar taste in names - I like slightly exotic names, vintage type names and Classical names too.

I was once doing supply teaching and had a group of ( nice) teenage girls who weren't doing very much work. I said to the chattiest one ' what's your name?' - that usually being enough to spur them into action, (retribution etc )- and she replied ' Olympia'. I spontaneously said ' Ooh, that's a nice name' and she beamed ( and got on with her work too). I'm not normally given to commenting on pupils' names!

It really suited her and I still like the name - more unusual, quite elegant really.

pureeandpearls · 04/11/2009 08:26

Good memory Looby! I live in London and it still wouldn't stop me....

loobylu3 · 04/11/2009 12:34

Oh thx campion. I think it's pretty and elegant too!

ninedragons · 04/11/2009 12:36

I love it.

Republican senator Olympia Snowe has my all-time favourite name. Shame about her politics.

branflake81 · 04/11/2009 12:37

Makes me think of Manet and prostitutes

Seededbiatch · 04/11/2009 12:39

Will there be a Kensington too?

seeker · 04/11/2009 12:40

Makes me think of horse shows.

Could be attractively shortened to Lymp too!

HinnyPet · 04/11/2009 12:44

If you are into Greek names Olympia is really nice. Despina (spring?) is Greek and lovely but my fave Greek name is Melina, and I might save that if I ever have another DD!!
