Not planning to use this as not pg but I rather like it. What do you think?

Really like Greek names. Kensington just doesn't do it for me seededbiatch, no idea why

I like it. But I couldn't use it myself.

CitizenPrecious · 04/11/2009 13:14

far too grand/pretentious

(tho I can talk. One of mine is a Delilah due to last minute change of heart on the way to the registrar. Have regretted it every single day )

loobylu3 · 17/11/2009 20:15

Citizen- Delilah is a beautiful name- not pretentious at all!

no, tis our local swimming pool!

winterdragon · 29/11/2009 01:17

I'm glad you're not seriously considering.
It would be a ridiculous name to saddle a baby with.

MamaLazarou · 29/11/2009 09:19

It's a lovely name, but you would have to be at least a tiny bit Greek, IMO.

fluffyfudge · 29/11/2009 13:41

Nice name for a building.

GibbonInARibbon · 29/11/2009 13:50

Horse of the year show.

How funny that this thread has popped up again. I was actually at Olympia with my friend Olympia yesterday and it made me think of this...

overweightoptimist · 29/11/2009 14:10

It would make me think of a very large woman, I think because of Olymphe in Harry Potter.

LowLevelWhingeing · 29/11/2009 14:19

Wembley for a boy?

frazzledoldbag · 30/11/2009 09:11

I love it. Shame as I'd have pinched it but I'm not having any more babies! She could get called 'Ollie' for short.

choosyfloosy · 30/11/2009 09:12

Absolutely love it. Olympia Dukakis is the association for me too, so sardonic, worldly, dry and beautiful rather than horsey.

alexpolismum · 30/11/2009 11:54

HinnyPet - Despina means "Miss" or "young lady" in Greek, and its use as a name is actually connected to the Virgin Mary.

Olympia makes me think of the mother of Alexander the Great.

loobylu3 · 30/11/2009 21:46

I see this thread has reactivated! I still like the name although doubtful that I would actually use it!

I don't like it as a standalone name, but Marie-Chantal Miller/Princess of Greece has a daughter called Maria-Olympia which is lovely.

campion · 01/12/2009 14:48

Go on, loobylu3, use it!

When I see names like Ivy and Violet being given to little girls I can't see what the problem with Olympia could be. It's a lovely, classical name without any images of senile old ladies ( for me!) and has a pleasing euphony.

loobylu3 · 01/12/2009 18:28

campion- pleased to see someone else really likes it! I find it beautiful and classical too! It's actually pretty similar to Olivia in terms of the sound and that is v popular! I'm not actually pg nor trying so this is all totally theoretical and DH never likes anything I suggest anyway!!
