Is it a good solid timeless name, or is it yummy-mummy hipster? ..like Dexter et al?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

i'd have said nag more than bully, tbh, and i know a couple of hectors up here. nice name. a wee bit 'what?' but then you get used to it.

Wheelybug · 10/10/2009 20:50

I absolutely love the name Hector. Would have really wanted it for a boy (in fact, dd1 in utero was known as hector !) but it didn't go with our surname and dh vetoed. As it was we had 2 dds !!

Arsed · 10/10/2009 20:53

Honestly ? I think it sounds a bit like tractor. Don't like it.

What about Hugo ?

AitchTwoToTangOh · 10/10/2009 21:01

lol, of course it sounds like tractor. and james sounds like flames and peter sounds like meter etc etc.

Arsed · 10/10/2009 21:04

Oh yeah I know but in my mind George doesn't = gorge and Claire dosnt = care but Hector = tractor.

MaggieBehave · 10/10/2009 21:07

I prefer Victor. Know two Hectors under 3.

AitchTwoToTangOh · 10/10/2009 21:07

lol. or even trector.

Arsed · 10/10/2009 21:09

Trector's good.

Op ! Use Trector !

AitchTwoToTangOh · 10/10/2009 21:10

lol. it does have a ring to it.

i like vincent, if you're looking for something strong.

LatinDAISYcal · 10/10/2009 21:14

I like it; one of my first major crushes was a boy called Hector

Arsed · 10/10/2009 21:14

It's ewe-neeke ;)

CocoK · 10/10/2009 21:19

Can't stand it - sorry.

FrightsMonth · 10/10/2009 21:20

v.good SEA Hector's House

MaggieBehave · 10/10/2009 21:22

Ok thanks for that, as I was thinking, but Doctor House is called Gregory not Hector...

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 22:25

Hectare ?

scottishmummy · 10/10/2009 22:28

what us hector's house?

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/10/2009 22:31

pre-school TV programme of the 1970s. I can't actually remember it, but it was on around the same time as Hickory House and Pipkins, which I do remember. Hector was a dog

scottishmummy · 10/10/2009 22:32

thanks

Salonly · 10/10/2009 23:08

I mentioned the name to a friend today (in London) and she knows of three, yes three Hectors born in the last few months!

The new Oscar maybe??

I am warming to Victor very much. It's not obviously trendy iykwim. I see it as being similar to Magnus in terms of style.

OP posts:
MaggieBehave · 10/10/2009 23:23

Exactly, that's why I love it too. I go for Bruce over Gus. Victor over Hector. Richie over Archie.

I like the more obviously trendy versions too mind you. But it's more like interpreting name trends in your own way.

Salonly · 10/10/2009 23:31

That's my problem, I love the trendier names too! I love Oscar, Felix, Noah, Finn, Hector and the old-man chic names, which are equally trendy IMO, like Wilfred, Albert and Arthur.

My heart says trendy and my head says staaaay away from them.

Yes....... Dawn was once Ruby iykwim. Not knocking either name btw. They both burst on to the scene, 40 years apart.

MamaLazarou · 11/10/2009 11:32

I love Victor. It's such a strong, classic name. It would definitely be on our shortlist if it weren't for Mr Meldrew.

Alphamum · 10/01/2010 18:02

My son is Hector , I think it means 'steadfast'.
