DH is thinking 'Judas Piest' - cool.
I'm thinking biblical based insult "You Judas..."
He would probaly be a 'Jude', but I'm a fan of traditional names on birth cerificates.

Opinions..??

I like Nero

Zil131 · 05/10/2009 12:48

I was never really serious... (posted during a bored bout of insomnia)
I suggested Jude to DH, DH thought Judas was the 'Proper Name' (e.g Harrys really dervied from Henrys), so I thought I'd throw if out there...
Keeping away form both now!!

Absolutely not. I love Judas Priest but noooo to the name. It has only negative connotations for the majority of people.

Heated · 05/10/2009 14:24

I know someone who named their dog Judas which they got from a shelter since it looked so unprepossessing.

Naming a child Judas could well be akin to using Methuselah, Adolph, Lolita - just names you don't EVER use.

Otoh, Delilah and Cain have come in to usage with parents being completely ignorant of the associations.

I would wait until Emmerdale use it

Shane Richie's daughter is called Lolita Belle.

Will she thank him when she can't register on Facebook?

GrendelsMum · 05/10/2009 22:21

Sorry, Heated - did you say that some people call their DC Otoh?

sasamaxx · 05/10/2009 22:26

No no no no no no no no no no no
What a thoroughly negative name - please don't.

Jude is lovely though

pointyhat · 05/10/2009 22:33

lol

no

GoppingOtter · 05/10/2009 22:35

simon etc were not angels ...

Jujubean77 · 05/10/2009 22:36

Judas - just drips negativity

I know a "Kane", awful.

Heated · 05/10/2009 22:47

Otoh - on the other hand - but admit my sentence does read like that

Pyrocanthus · 05/10/2009 23:11

I thought I'd missed the reference there.

Bathsheba · 06/10/2009 09:57

We are seriously looking at Jude as a boy's name...its Biblical AND Hardy-esque which I love..

Jude in the Bible was one of Jesus' brothers but his full name was Judas - the epistle that he wrote though is known as Jude.

You can;t really get much more traditional than a Biblical Book name, so there is no need to elongate it to make it more formal or more traditional. If you want Jude, then call him Jude

edam · 06/10/2009 10:36

Children called Kane = parents who are a bit dim.

castille · 06/10/2009 10:42

No to Judas, no way.

I know girls called Lolita and Jezabel.

This is not a good start in life.

edam · 06/10/2009 10:44

Oh dear, that's really bad. Hope they don't get Jezebel a dog!

castille · 06/10/2009 10:47

Quite.

And they spelt it wrong (like I typed it).

Both are French though, is that an excuse...?

edam · 06/10/2009 10:50

France is a Catholic country so really no excuse at all. We must uphold standards on this one!

Gather poor old Jezebel was actually a priestess of a rival religion so Bible story is propaganda - but that still doesn't make it a good name to give a poor innocent baby.

edam · 06/10/2009 10:51

(Maybe an excuse for the spelling though, my O-level French didn't really get as far as Biblical characters.)

castille · 06/10/2009 10:59

Despite catholicism, the French can be surprisingly ignorant of the bible. And the connotations of both names don't seem to be widely known - I have never heard them used as common nouns to describe a particular kind of girl, like they are in English.

That must be their excuse!

edam · 06/10/2009 11:02

I think we are still entitled to go though!

Pyrocanthus · 06/10/2009 11:04

This thread has been so educational.

edam · 06/10/2009 11:11

surely someone called Pyrocanthus already has quite high educational attainment, though?

Pyrocanthus · 06/10/2009 11:31

Actually, if I were properly educated, it'd be Pyracantha, but it's too late now.

Seriously, all this biblical revisionism is fascinating.
