What does everybody think? I love the name!

Ah OP I've just read further and saw your comment about liking Poppy because it was "cute and girly ". I suspect there is nothing constructive I can say to you as we can have no common ground whatsoever

MintyCane · 30/09/2009 10:06

Not too keen on Blousie either it make me think on Mrs Slocombe from Are you Being Served for some reason.

smother · 30/09/2009 11:33

blossom is a sweet nickname (so is petal, sweetcheeks and the like...) but please avoid putting it on the birth certificate, it's degrading!

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 30/09/2009 11:56

I thought Christopher Lambert's love interest in Highlander was called Heather (or Brenda was the other woman)?

I like Blossom as a middle name but wouldn't use it as a first name myself.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 30/09/2009 12:01

Sweet til you're about 3 I should think. I'm not sure your average teen, 20 something etc would be too keen. Probably be fine again once of pensionable age. In short. No.

GrendelsMum · 30/09/2009 12:10

Well, it didn't seem to hold Blossom Dearie back in life - but having a slightly unusual name is probably an advantage for a musician

Why not call your daughter Ava Blossom Surname? That's rather lovely.

diddl · 30/09/2009 12:18

Not to my taste.
Seen Lavendr mentioned here & like that!

Allets · 30/09/2009 12:26

If you love Blossom because of it's floral, feminine conotations, then why not:

Fleur
Lily
Rose
Florence (Spanish for blossom is Flor)

PuppyMonkey · 30/09/2009 12:35

I like Blossom too.

But I have a dd called Esme Bluebell which probably disqualifies me from being able to offer constructive cricitism. And yes, she will still be a brain surgeon or high court judge when she grows up.

(ignore everyone else, they're all boring old farts)

honeydew · 30/09/2009 13:35

Blossom?!!! I was going to call my cat that!

But a child? No way! Sounds like you have been overly influenced by Jamie Oliver.

Come on.... poor girl, she'll get teased so much at school, that really would be very unfair to saddle her with such a silly name.

She'll probably hate you for it when she's an adult and change her name by deed poll.

I would avoid at all costs and keep it as a pet nickname.

Sourdough · 30/09/2009 13:38

Beware of cutesy girly names.
She may grow up to be a construction worker with a penchant for pints of cider and tattooed knuckles.

lavenderkate · 30/09/2009 18:30

ooo Diddl, thank you

LatinDAISYcal · 30/09/2009 19:55

you need to think about what it will get shortened to by friends as well?

Blossie...Bloss...Blo????? I can just hear the playground taunts now I'm afraid.

Definately middle name material if you feel the need to use it.

I quite like it.

mummyloveslucy · 01/10/2009 03:45

That was acctually what I called my privates as a little girl.

BlossomsMum · 01/10/2009 12:14

Erm... I love it!

smallone · 01/10/2009 12:25

I reckon names have to pass following test

Can you yell it in support on a sports field?

Can you yell it in anger up the stairs?

Can you see it written in lights on broadway?

Can you see it written in gold plate on an office door?

vickstar · 05/10/2009 21:53

My 3 year old daughter is Blossom Rae and no I wasn't too sure to begin with but after 36 hours of labour ending in a emergency caesarean call her whatever you like!!!
I love it now, i'm so proud to tell people her name and so is she, also haven't met another Blossom yet.....(not like all those pegs at nursery with the "unusual names" on that 6 kids all have!)
She may well not like it when she's older but who hasn't disliked the name given to them at some point, my daughter will grow up to be whatever she wants to be, an MP or a stay at home mum!!
Would love to tell you our surname but not sure i could stand the backlash!

DH had a much loved Aunt Blossie, but she weighed about 25stone and her name to me sounds about as glamorous as bloater paste.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 06/10/2009 22:41

I think it's a bit silly.

cory · 07/10/2009 08:30

Blossom- that's what they call that ghastly little girl-wife in David Copperfield, isn't it? The one who has to be killed off after a miscarriage because otherwise the reader would have leapt into the book to strangle her with his own hands? The one who makes David turn to the Stained Glass Window as a blessed relief?

Not good vibes for me, I'm afraid.

persephoneplum · 07/10/2009 11:41

When she's 15 she'll change it to Ruth.

ninedragons · 07/10/2009 11:49

Now Ruth is a truly excellent name.

Blossom is a joke.
