Silas, Fletcher or Joseph? help!

short list down to these three... for the longest time any DS was going to be Silas, but just not sure if it would be seen as a bit poncey.... middle name Brady for family reasons, and a loooong surname!

what do you think? any other suggestions to throw in?

Like Joseph best out of those.

None of them are appalling, prefer Silas to Fletcher.

I like Silas but prefer Joseph. Not keen on Fletcher.

Fletcher Brady is lovely. [adds Fletcher to collection of surnames which are actually jobs, but have a feeling that fletching was not a fun thing..]

Just checked.. it's nice, a fletcher was a maker of arrows.
Could suggest Archer, though that is going to be V.V. popular due to Robin Hood's brother.

PS Silas a little bit Cold Comfort Farm mayhap (well yes I know it's actually Silas Marner, but tis a bit ooh arh Silas, Seth etc.)

Joseph. Silas sounds too much like 'silage' to my ears, and Fletcher does need Norman Stanley on the front.

My preference is Silas, Joseph, Fletcher, but they're all nice names. I'm biased by just having listened to Silas Marner on the radio, though.

Don't call your baby Silas - he was the crazy monk in The Da Vinci Code. Fletcher is a good surname, but not a real first name. And he would get Fletch the Letch - my friend's surname is Fletcher and he gets that all the time so even worse if it was your first name, surely?

Joseph is a real name - classic and lovely.

Silas sounds like silage, Fletcher will be Fletch/Retch/Letch his whole life

As for other suggestions - what type of name are you looking for? The three you've suggested seem very varied

I don't really like Fletcher, don't know why. And I find Joe/Joseph a little dull/boring.

Love Joseph, Fletcher is okay and Silas mainly because it reminds me of Sylar (the baddy in heroes)

Fletcher isn't uncommon where we're from due to links with Fletcher Christian (Mutiny on the Bounty) bit of a local hero, though i was concerned about the Norman Stanley thing, and the letch thing, so that's confirmed that!

Silas i love, but don't like the shortening Si and can't imagine any other... and Joseph, well, we'll see!

There are lots of boys names we love, but it seems so much harder to choose for a boy than a girl! Plus, though we both have Scots heritage (grandparents) and love lots of Scots names, it feels a bit like a fraud to use them cos we're not in Scotland, and we're not Scots! (does that make sense?!?!)

I don't think people would shorten Silas to Si. It would never have occurred to me to use that shortening anyway.

I know a 20 yr old Silas - he's never been called Si to the best of my knowledge.
