What do you think of Boudica?

What do you think of Boudica as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

We haven't decided whether to use this as a middle name or first. We'd love to know what the mumsnet jury think.

It is a 'try hard' name (I like that), very much so and it will get big.But damnit, I still like it.

I like it, and it could be shortened to 'Boo', which is cute, but then it could also be shortened to 'Dick', which isn't so great!

I knew 2 siblings at school who were called Caractacus and Boudica. They got abbreviated to Crack and Bod. No word of a lie. Don't do it!

We may use the Boudicca spelling, at the moment we prefer one 'c', but are open minded about changing spelling if anybody has any particular strong reasons to supply us with. DH thinks it is more correct this way.

I do feel somewhat tempted to fill in a few of the details (Boudica will be a dental hygienist ). Couldn't see any clothing that would fit the bill though ....

The thing is, it's always going to divide people. Some people will love it. Some miseryguts people will tut at it. I know which people I'd rather listen to!

Well the only Boudicca I've ever heard of was Quieen of the Icenae (sp?) and sacked Verulamium in about AD 300 I think... and she def has 2 'c's

Boudicca is fabulous really. Great historical allusion. Weirdly I have also come across siblings Caractacus and Boudicca.

It is rather fab, but I wouldn't want to be called it, which is sort of my 'barometer'. What I do when I take a notion for a marvellous name is use it for a pet. I've had fish called Cassiopeoa, Andromeda, Oberon, Titania - you get my drift. I did once know a rhodesian ridgeback called Boudicca. She insisted on the full version and ignored "Boo"; it did sound rather marvellous being called down the beach! But I personally wouldn't use it for a child.

As before... Its fine as long as you are 100% sure she will be going to private school.

depends where you live. If you are a premium postcode London or Home Counties mummy with the lifestyle to match then Boudica is perfect.

If you live in Salford, then errrrrrrrr no.

If you like it, why not? There seems to be this attitude that all children must have the same few names. There are thousands of lovely names that just aren't used any more. why limit yourself to the top 100?!
