DP loves it, I would rather give the little one an easier start in life. Would love to hear your thoughts!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sweetnitanitro · 05/09/2009 15:36

Hercules? No.

bronze · 05/09/2009 15:37

said as in Poirot or as in the plane? Either way don't think so

peachygirl · 05/09/2009 15:46

It's up to you.
It wouldn't be my choice, but if it make you feel better we have a child called Benhur starting reception this September.

campion · 05/09/2009 16:06

Now peachygirl - why am I instantly picturing that child as being potentially ... err ...'challenging'? Blind prejudice, I know ( and experience).

Hercules? Nope.

kathyis6incheshigh · 05/09/2009 16:08

Based on genetics in your family and your dp's, is he likely to grow up big and strong? If not I wouldn't risk it.

BalloonSlayer · 05/09/2009 16:15

Oh dear . . . DS1 . . . Gawdblessim, is not the brawniest of kids. Imagine if we'd called him Hercules!

franklymydear · 05/09/2009 16:16

Hahahahahahahahaahahaahahahaahaa!

No! Really?

franklymydear · 05/09/2009 16:17

wipes tears of mirth away

oh thank your partner for that one

comeinnumber49yourtimeisup · 05/09/2009 16:33

It benefitted from coming hot on the heels of Aristotle...

OP posts:
Firawla · 06/09/2009 11:36

dislike it, sounds a bit of a joke tbh

janeite · 06/09/2009 11:37

Sorry but I think it is both awful and quite, quite ridiculous.

catinthehat2 · 06/09/2009 11:47

No, just go for it.

Really - ignore all these people taking the piss, what do they know.

Start a trend!

SoupDragon · 06/09/2009 11:47

Why the hell would you do this to a child??

serenity · 06/09/2009 11:51

I know a child called Herakles (Greek form of the Anglicised Hercules) but he's Greek, so it's fine, and fairly normal. I'm not sure if I would do it for a non Greek child tbh. We didn't even risk any Greek Greek names for our Cypriot-but-raised-in-the-UK children!

ZZZenAgain · 06/09/2009 12:02

Les for short or maybe Herc?

I think it is ok but I wouldn't choose it. Any other names you are mulling over?

pickyvic · 06/09/2009 12:46

errrrr....no.

id go back to the baby names book i think!

RudolphHucker · 06/09/2009 12:50

Leave the bastard.

MamaLazarou · 06/09/2009 13:21

It's a wonderful name, but I just don't think it is fair on the child. Shame.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 06/09/2009 13:22

No.

diddl · 06/09/2009 13:39

Are you sure your partner didn´t say it in jest?

chubbychipmonk · 06/09/2009 14:50

Whats the surname?

cathcat · 06/09/2009 14:57

I am not saying I approve but there is a Hercules not a million miles from me. But the family is landed gentry so perhaps that helps them get away with it. Are you titled, at all?

countrybump · 07/09/2009 11:57

I saw the name 'Hercules' on the side of a train the other day and considered it for a while - put it down to pregnancy hormones in the end!

But, I do know a grown up Hercules, who has only ever been known as Hercy (Her-key), and it seems to suit him!

HecatesTwopenceworth · 07/09/2009 12:07

please don't.

LaTrucha · 07/09/2009 12:07

My DH saw absolutely no problem in saying no to every name I liked but I was very polite about his.

Say no.
