Lucas vs Nicholas..?

Any thoughts? Does Lucas remind anyone of Lupus or any other disease I haven't considered? Other than this, I quite like it ....

I prefer Nicholas. Do like Lucas and nephew is a Lucas which suits him. Just personally prefer Nicholas.

Lucas is best IMO.

Nicholas will shortened to Nick or Nicky, not keen on those.

If I had to choose I would go for Lucas...I don't care much for Nicholas at all and I don't like the NNs for it either.

My stepson is called Lucas - but has always been known as Luke. Sorry, but really don't like it, think its a bit chavvy . Nicholas, on the other hand has the option of being shortened, or used in its entirety to sound classic and traditional.

Lucas is a gorgeous name. Nicholas is just horrific. It's like nicker-less. Knickerless girls go cold in winter.

Lucas is quite trendy - has been in top 10 in Germany for somoe years. Feel it will 'date' much more.

Nicholas - nope. i am generally a traditionalist but don't like this one - too long and will always get shortened to Nick/Nicky imo which I don't like (Nicko not too bad but you'd have to really assert that one?)

I would have Nicholas, its a great strong classic name.

What about Marcus? I prefer that to Lucas and it's rarer.

Actually I find boys names really difficult, I have perfect girls names lined up for at least 6 future DDs no room for boys names in my head.. hmm...

I agree with the others: Lucas is nice, but far too trendy and will therefore date very badly. It's 2020's Wayne or Darren.

I like both. Nicholas is a good, strong classic. Lucas is too but has suffered from a sudden surge in popularity recently. I don't think it is chavvy at all. I've seen Ben, Joshua and Imogen described as chavvy on here

There are about six Luke/Lukas/Luka/Luca/Lucas's at our school. Its not a chavvy name at all (I think its rather European) but there are a lot of them around.

My sister has a lucas and she also suffers from lupus - if she doesn't make the connection I don't think you should worry

I am calling ds (due in December) Lucas. My maiden name is Nicholas and I did consider it, but I don't like any of the shortened versions.

I am chavvy though. As is dh, and obviously dd's name is chavvy as well.
