Any thoughts? Does Lucas remind anyone of Lupus or any other disease I haven't considered? Other than this, I quite like it ....

honest (harsh) opinions gratefully received

i much prefer lucas

southernbelle77 · 03/09/2009 12:56

I prefer Nicholas. Do like Lucas and nephew is a Lucas which suits him. Just personally prefer Nicholas.

stripes200 · 03/09/2009 12:57

Lucas is best IMO.

Nicholas will shortened to Nick or Nicky, not keen on those.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 03/09/2009 12:59

Like both of them but don't like the shortened version of nicholas.

NadiaWadia · 03/09/2009 13:14

Prefer Nicholas as Lucas is a surname - how about Luke?

KAEKAE · 03/09/2009 13:15

If I had to choose I would go for Lucas...I don't care much for Nicholas at all and I don't like the NNs for it either.

OrangeAnge · 03/09/2009 13:30

Lucas is nicer IMO. It will probably get shortened to Luke but I like that too.

Jojay · 03/09/2009 13:36

Nicholas is MUCH nicer. Nick is a great nickname too.

Lucas is flash-in-the-pan trendy - IMHO of course.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 03/09/2009 13:38

My stepson is called Lucas - but has always been known as Luke. Sorry, but really don't like it, think its a bit chavvy . Nicholas, on the other hand has the option of being shortened, or used in its entirety to sound classic and traditional.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 03/09/2009 13:48

Lucas is a gorgeous name. Nicholas is just horrific. It's like nicker-less. Knickerless girls go cold in winter.

Lucas is beautiful, well done on good taste there.

annasmami · 03/09/2009 14:47

Nicholas is more classic, but I'm not keen on Nicky or Nick.

Lucas is quite trendy - has been in top 10 in Germany for somoe years. Feel it will 'date' much more.

gladders · 03/09/2009 15:07

love Lucas - not too popular, not too frilly, no nasty nicknames - and personally don't think ti woudl get shortened to luke unless you wanted it to

Nicholas - nope. i am generally a traditionalist but don't like this one - too long and will always get shortened to Nick/Nicky imo which I don't like (Nicko not too bad but you'd have to really assert that one?)

TwoPersephone · 03/09/2009 16:16

I would have Nicholas, its a great strong classic name.

MaggieVirgo · 03/09/2009 17:34

What about Marcus? I prefer that to Lucas and it's rarer.

crumpette · 03/09/2009 17:36

Ouch- chavvy can't be having that!!!

Actually I find boys names really difficult, I have perfect girls names lined up for at least 6 future DDs no room for boys names in my head.. hmm...

sweetnitanitro · 03/09/2009 17:37

I prefer Nicholas, Lucas is a bit trendy for me.

MamaLazarou · 03/09/2009 18:30

I agree with the others: Lucas is nice, but far too trendy and will therefore date very badly. It's 2020's Wayne or Darren.

loobylu3 · 03/09/2009 22:14

I like both. Nicholas is a good, strong classic. Lucas is too but has suffered from a sudden surge in popularity recently. I don't think it is chavvy at all. I've seen Ben, Joshua and Imogen described as chavvy on here

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 03/09/2009 22:28

Nick. But I am biased - its my name!

There are about six Luke/Lukas/Luka/Luca/Lucas's at our school. Its not a chavvy name at all (I think its rather European) but there are a lot of them around.

lucasnorth · 03/09/2009 22:34

I like lucas

weaselbudge · 04/09/2009 15:46

My sister has a lucas and she also suffers from lupus - if she doesn't make the connection I don't think you should worry

Pinkjenny · 04/09/2009 15:49

I am calling ds (due in December) Lucas. My maiden name is Nicholas and I did consider it, but I don't like any of the shortened versions.

I am chavvy though. As is dh, and obviously dd's name is chavvy as well.

honestlyandtruly · 04/09/2009 16:48

Much prefer Nicholas, lovely classic name. I also like Nick as a nn. How about Louis instead of Lucas?

AnathemaDevice · 04/09/2009 18:51

I prefer Nicholas, but I would say that- I've got a 5 month old Nicky.

MrsJohnDeere · 04/09/2009 19:00

Nicholas.
