Expecting dc2 in September, already have DS with cornish name beginning with J. We want to continue with the Cornish thing if possible but haven't been struck by anything as yet. Any thoughts?

I have a book of them somewhere will try to find. Was thinking of Morwenna for dd

there is celtic baby name book which lists all celtic names as scottish, irish, welsh and cornish. Worth a look.

spudmasher · 17/08/2009 17:52

No....thats not it. I keep wanting to say Tall Trees but that was Newquay.

spudmasher · 17/08/2009 17:55

QUASARS!!!!!!
Not a name for your child of course.....

duchesse · 17/08/2009 17:56

I know of two Cornish children named Fior (boy) and Ylyn (sp?) (girl).

duchesse · 17/08/2009 17:57

Ooh, and my lovely midwife is called Thurza, which I love.

This book has lots of great suggestions, if you are in Cornwall you will probably be able to get it in a local bookshop.

Tall trees still is Newquay, and the last time I went there it hadn't changed a bit. Was about 4 years ago though

Kasha - I have that book! There are a few in there that are quite nice, and some really really bizarre ones too

I quite like Steren - meaning star

Petroc for a boy (can you tell I've been reading Notes from an Exhibition?)

Scorps · 17/08/2009 18:31

I can second a vile Demelza.

Lamorna, Morvah, Loveday, Tegan

Scorps · 17/08/2009 18:32

Senara is lovely, i know one and she is nice

Trevelyan

Scorps · 17/08/2009 18:32

Trelawn

Ladygooga · 17/08/2009 18:33

I had a friend Called Thirza who was very proud of her cornish name, unfortunately she passed away last yr

SoupDragon · 17/08/2009 18:40

Looking at the list I like Talwyn

Scorps · 17/08/2009 18:40

i know a Talwyn, oh and a Tean

lljkk · 17/08/2009 18:45

Tristan. Cornish for 'Thomas'.
Is Tamar a Cornish name, too? (for a girl).

SoupDragon · 17/08/2009 18:48

Also from the list I like Merryn, Mawgan, Kerensa & Kenan

oneopinionatedmother · 17/08/2009 18:57

i love mawgan for a boy or Lowenna for a girl.

how about 'manor' not cornish zactly but i'm sure many babes have een conceived in/outside the club of that name.

Bumplet09 · 17/08/2009 19:01

I knew a Meredith once - a boy at my school. Although I'm sure it can be used for either girl or boy.

JRocks · 18/08/2009 10:10

oh wow - thanks for all your replies!

Some great suggestions, going to have to think and get a shortlist together.

Tristan definitely out despite being a lovely name as it also belongs to a knobhead ex

Scorps - I wonder if your vile demelza is my vile demelza?! ;) or maybe they all are....

bellissima · 18/08/2009 13:41

Tristan and Iseult.

bellissima · 18/08/2009 13:43

Okay Knobhead ex and Iseult!

Know a Perran. not a knobhead

eastendmummy · 18/08/2009 19:52

How about Mawgan? That's my name, and I love it although people are always spelling it wrong! It could also work for a girl or a boy and is a place in Cornwall as well as an old Celtic name.

jkklpu · 18/08/2009 20:34

Rowena?

oysterpots · 19/08/2009 10:09

Do you already have a Jago? I think that's lovely.

Is Inigo Cornish? That would work well with Jago...
