Not pregnant or ttc but loving this name at the moment. Is it a bit too much for a non French child? Any opinions please!

Mamazon · 06/08/2009 10:38

gladders · 06/08/2009 13:16

am going to disagree -think it's a bit of a mouthful for a little girl, and the speeling will always be tricky?

Genevieve was a 1960s film involving some sort of car race - London to Brighton? The car was called Genevieve. Lots of people will immediately think of the film. It is a nice name, though.

misspollysdolly · 06/08/2009 19:00

DD (9years) has a friend at school called Genevieve - it suits her. I like it though don't think I would use it myself.

Kotek · 07/08/2009 15:29

Like it v much. Never heard of the film mentioned below though ( I was born in the 70s)

when I've seen the name used, the number of nicknames is huge, ranging from Gen to Genny to Johnny-viv(after someone pronounced the name in the correct French way) to spearmint Jenny. Whatever name you have people will shorten it somehow and you just have to hope you get a nice one

honeydew · 07/08/2009 18:46

I think it has to go with your surname. It is a lovely name but perhaps wouldn't suit all English surnames. Will get shortened to Jenny, Gennie.

BitOfFun · 07/08/2009 18:52

Lovely. I met a little girl called this, and her family all called her Bunny for some odd reason! Cute though.

hera · 07/08/2009 19:55

I have a Genevieve. I don't get the obsession with shortening names and she has never been Jenny. Everyone said when she was born "she'll be Jenny at school" but she wasn't. (she is now 22)

Spelling is easy - Gen ev ie ve. She was writing it at 5 no problem.

pamelat · 07/08/2009 20:10

I love it.

fanjolina · 07/08/2009 20:31

Love it too

sunshinejanuary · 07/08/2009 21:00

Lovely - it is on our shortlist

IneedacleanerIamalazyslattern · 07/08/2009 21:02

I love it had a friend of that name and it was never shortened went so nicely with her surname.
Hmmm wonder if dh will like it.

Mouette · 07/08/2009 21:10

Genevieve was a young girl who saved Paris from Attila the Hun by praying. So nice name for a nice girl. The English version is Guinevere - not bad either if you ignore the adulterous connotation...
