Entrants for boy's names include:-

Bingo

Bloo

Boleslaw

Cack

Conk

Honestly, on every page there are about 2 names out of 20 that aren't totally insane. I'm not sure I dare venture any further ......

LOL!

In my baby name book is Cnut. I'm sure it must be a proper old fashioned name, but seriously, who would use it??

dizzydixies · 01/08/2009 21:32

I had an American one once and it had Celery in it as a genuine option

Cool baby names or something, serves me right for buying one with such a title!

LynetteScavo · 01/08/2009 21:35

Which book is it!

And thank heavens you bought a book instead of asking us!

Oh, and Cack isn't in the Oxford dictionary of fist names - therefore it isn't a name!

LynetteScavo · 01/08/2009 21:37

Clitus, howver is a "real" name.

Tidey · 01/08/2009 21:38

Fist names Sorry LynetteScavo.

Are you sure it's not a comedy name book, taking the piss out of the outlandish names people use nowadays?

And I think Cnut is a variant of Canute and Knut, as in King.

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/08/2009 21:38

Its the 40,001 Best Baby Names Book (apparently The Very Best Baby Naming Book Ever).

Just goes to show that sometimes, less is more

I think we might go with Boleslaw - Bo for short

Boleslaw is making me LOL

I always found that whichever baby name book you looked at, there were always more names that you wanted to out a cross through than a tick by

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/08/2009 21:43

Page 236 offers us Spunk, Spanky and Spurgeon

Isn't Bloo from Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends?

I'm wondering about Boleslaw too. Someone thought of Coleslaw, but decided it was classier with a B? Some kind of truncated version of Boyle's Law?

pasturesnew · 01/08/2009 21:46

This is fab, was wondering what to call the new baby, now happy with Bingo Bloo, suitable for a boy or a girl, too!

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/08/2009 21:48

Boleslaw is apparently Polish and means "in glory"

DiamondHead · 01/08/2009 21:49

Mine's has Kuntala for your cherished newborn baby girl.
Whatever your culture is - not one for an English speaking playground.

dizzydixies · 01/08/2009 21:49

Spanky is fantastic

there was a lady who actually named her child Bingo on a names board on another forum

Tillyscoutsmum · 01/08/2009 21:58

LOL at Kuntala

I'm amazed my mother didn't consider Bingo for me - named after her second home

It's definitely a boy but Dijonaise might have been a contender for a girl. Apparently, its a combination of Dijon and Mayonnaise (like that makes it ok )

CarmenSanDiego · 01/08/2009 22:07

Oh! I had one with Anal in it. Pronounced Ah-nahl

Giggling here at Boleslaw

Tommy · 01/08/2009 23:52

so I guess Boleslaw is pronounced Bol-es-lav - which makes it more plausible I guess (if I were Polish)

you could have Boleslaw and Dijonaise and have a salad bar

edam · 01/08/2009 23:58

Cnut - now there's a name you don't see very often these days... poor sod would be bound to develop dyslexia to the amusement of all his friends.

Funny how when I was at school, books were clear that his name was Canute. Are historians these days just more honest/less uptight? Or do they have filthy minds?

totalmisfit · 02/08/2009 13:02

i had that book when we were expecting dd. half the names weren't names by any stretch of the imagination. did give me a laugh though. i lent it to a friend when she was pg and now i'm expecting dc2 i have a much more boring and short baby names book to work from!

ninedragons · 02/08/2009 13:15

Spanky Cnut would probably end up having a really mundane porn star name. David Williams or something.

wuglet · 02/08/2009 13:17

IIRC that book also has the name "Schmoopy" (for a girl of course)

Celery · 02/08/2009 13:32

And what's wrong with the name Celery? huh? huh?

dizzydixies · 02/08/2009 15:01

sorry Celery, my bad

pixiestix · 02/08/2009 15:45

pmsl at this thread! Spanky Cnut

pedalmonster · 02/08/2009 18:09

this is hilarious, I have been laughing out loud. just popping over to amazon to order this book...

Tillyscoutsmum · 02/08/2009 20:34

Scally is a suggestion, as is Delete (which means to remove believe it or not )

It hasn't been remotely helpful in our baby naming quest but has made us laugh
