Non-ugly Irish girls' names

I'm looking for suggestions of Irish names (broadest interpretation of same OK) for a girl that are not hideous.

Irish boys' names are easy, but girls are way trickier as so many of them are just not very attractive IMHO. Others are lovely when pronounced properly but very lumpen in the mouths of non-Irish speakers, and DH (and family) are English.

So, what am I not considering? The more unusual the better here.

Oh sorry. I only know hideous ones.

Actually how about Aoife? (Pron Eefa). That's a gorgeous name.

Iklboo · 22/07/2009 13:25

Aoife
Roisin
Siobhan
Imelda is quite popular
Mairead

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 13:25

I love the name sorcha... I think there are alternative spellings too...

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 13:26

saoirse is one alternative of sorcha

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 13:27

Niamh is another lovely one (pronounced neeve)

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 13:27

Also like Caitlin....

EverythingsPink · 22/07/2009 13:28

We got a book called o'Baby with Irish names...didn't choose one though.

Have you some Irish connection?

MadreInglese · 22/07/2009 13:28

I like Maeve, is that Irish? (pronounced Mave)

HeadFairy · 22/07/2009 13:28

Cara..

Can you tell I'm working through alphabetically on a web page of irish girls' names ?

ArcticLemming · 22/07/2009 13:29

Orla's not too easy to mangle. I also like Emer and Eilis.

spicemonster · 22/07/2009 13:30

I love Roisin, Saoirse, Aoife. Apparently my pronunciation of those isn't bad. As an English person I mutilate Niamh so probably best avoided

PlumBumMum · 22/07/2009 13:31

Cara can be spelt Caragh

mumof2222222222222222boys · 22/07/2009 13:31

I like Fionnuala.

Please correct me if spelt wrong!

skidoodle · 22/07/2009 13:31

Thanks all.

Caitlin is pronounced something close to "Cotchleen"! Do you really think that's nice?

Of the names so far, the only one I love is Aoife, but not sure I'd use it as a bit too popular and also my cousin's name.

It is gorgeous though...

blithedance · 22/07/2009 13:39

Rhiannon?

MadreInglese · 22/07/2009 13:40

Oh, and Leesha is pretty (can't quite remember the Irish spelling, something like Laoise?)

thedolly · 22/07/2009 13:41

I love the name Naoise (NEE-sha). Originally a boys name but sounds feminine to me and I know a lady called it.

shonaspurtle · 22/07/2009 13:42

I like Orla

LynetteScavo · 22/07/2009 13:43

I love the name Sorcha.

Iklboo · 22/07/2009 13:46

I thought Rhiannon was Welsh? I love that name

skidoodle · 22/07/2009 13:50

I couldn't use Naoise for girl, it's a boys' name to me.

DH thinks it's too girly for a boy, so it's pretty much out unfortunately, as I love it.

Laoise, yes, I do like Laoise and it works in English too.
