Bear in mind I am 12 days overdue and about to leave for my induction in the next couple of hours. I WILL defend fiercely.

I may also be a bit in labour so criticise at your peril. You hear that soupy?!

how about Plumella then? Or Prunella?

Plummette? (oh no, that would be little bollock)

Plummeria

I like Mirabelle - that's a lovely idea!

I also though Victoria immediately

or you could have Damson instead...

Good luck Hobb!

totalmisfit · 21/07/2009 13:50

no, 'Plum Velvet' is no better as it sounds sort of fanjo esque to me.

mrsradders · 21/07/2009 17:14

i agree cute as a short name but could hate you later on if given as a first name alone...victoria is lovely though as the others have said.

hope all goes well. xx

piscesmoon · 21/07/2009 17:16

Don't do it to her! Victoria is lovely.

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 21/07/2009 17:20

I know 2 Plum's

Bean74 · 21/07/2009 17:21

I call DD2 Plum as a nickname (DD1's nickname is Peach!) but it's not her proper name.

LittleMissBliss · 21/07/2009 17:24

I think Plum is sweet.

boodleboot · 21/07/2009 20:03

i really like it but wonder if anyone at all in the whole world could carry it off and realaaaalllly wouldn't like to exercise that experiment on my little baby girl....let us know what you choose won't you - how exciting....good luck

serinBrightside · 21/07/2009 20:44

.....Only if your surname is pudding.

oldspeckledtam · 21/07/2009 21:43

I like it.

Mintyy · 21/07/2009 22:26

He he heh! I think I persuaded someone to change their posting name to VelvetPlum in honour of this thread today.

NotanOtter · 21/07/2009 22:30

you have to be posh

teddygirl23 · 22/07/2009 16:49

its very bad.

Paolosgirl · 22/07/2009 16:52

Plums are testicles - you CANNOT do this to your child, and I mean that.

teddygirl23 · 22/07/2009 16:54

its very bad.

margotandjerry · 23/07/2009 07:10

I do like Plum, although Pearl is my favourite 'P' name. I also love Velvet! although it's a name I doubt I would use - bit of a guilty pleasure name! Dd's name is Violet - a similar feel to it? My current fave baby name is Seraphine...but don't know if people would think I'm a Ben Affleck/ Jennifer Garner wannabe as they have girls called Violet and Seraphina. I'm not, they just have excellent taste!

There always has to be someone brave enough to lead with baby names. Ruby was a brave name a decade ago, now it's the most popular name for girls. If you feel you are the one - go for it!

margotandjerry · 23/07/2009 07:20

Good luck with the birth by the way hobb goblin!! A word of advice, don't make a decision on the name straight away - give it a couple of weeks and try different alternatives as your original judgement will by clouded by hormone interference- e.g. a different name a day!. I made the mistake of naming my dd too quickly, giving her Violet as a middle name. I then realised that Violet was my absolute favourite and suited her much better when she was a few weeks old. We then swapped her names around.

SuziDee · 23/07/2009 11:12

I LOVE IT!! It's girlie and gorgeous do it x

ilovesoup · 23/07/2009 14:04

gorgeous x

Mumcentreplus · 23/07/2009 14:15

ok..sure she not on the gas & air already? .....plum is slang terms alone is not right...it's just not right I mean it's not even cute... connotations aside...if you have to..make it a middler

Tortoise · 23/07/2009 14:18

Seeing this reminds me of a piece of school work that DD1 showed me. She had labelled some fruits but spelt Plums as Plumps!

Littlefish · 23/07/2009 14:37

My best friend all through primary and secondary school was called Plum, but it was a nickname, taken from part of her surname. I don't like it as a "proper" name - I think you should use it as a nickname and give her a different proper name.
