What do you think to Isla? Is it becoming really popular?

dizzydixies · 10/07/2009 19:12

up here in Scotland yes its VERY popular - lovely name though

MrsHappy · 10/07/2009 19:14

I like it, but the only problem is that with some last names (ours anyway) it makes the child sound like a holiday destination.

Prosecco · 10/07/2009 19:15

yes (also Scottish) but love it!

expertinscunthorpe · 10/07/2009 19:16

I love it, a friend also has an Iona which I think is pretty as well and a bit less popular.

Kayzr · 10/07/2009 19:17

I love it.

nigglewiggle · 10/07/2009 19:17

It's lovely. It is getting more popular in England, but was really uncommon a few years back, so that's not saying it's everywhere.

I think of Isla Sinclair - but that shows my age!

More likely to make people think of Isla Fisher - not a bad thing IMO.

roundabout1 · 10/07/2009 19:24

My 3 year old is called Isla, every one says it's unusual & there's only one other in our town & she's 4 months. I think it is becoming more popular though. I always thought of Isla Sinclair too but am glad that people more commonly think of Isla Fisher!

Rindercella · 10/07/2009 19:27

Lovely name but very popular.

I'm of an age to remember Isla Sinclair too

ZippysMum · 10/07/2009 20:05

A friend of mine has just had a little girl named Isla Rose.
Another friend has Isla or Orla as #1 choice if she has another girl.
Lovely name, though.

Pyrocanthus · 10/07/2009 20:22

Lovely name, 2 in our Midlands school, both of Scottish parentage.

Iona and Orla lovely too.

yogabird · 10/07/2009 20:22

lovely

lou031205 · 10/07/2009 20:25

My 13 week old DD3 is called Isla - lovely name

serin · 10/07/2009 21:26

Gorgeous.

roundabout1 · 11/07/2009 19:55

My dd is called Isla Rose too. Have had a few people mispronouncing it & saying it as it's spelt but not too many.

tummytickler · 11/07/2009 19:57

I love Isla - my best friend at primary school was calles Isla, but it has become very popular very quickly, which would worry me (faddy/trendy).
But thats just me .

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 11/07/2009 20:09

I love it, but it seems so do a lot of other people as it seems extremely popular at the moment.

kellbell · 11/07/2009 20:19

It is a lovely name but getting a bit overdone. I'd put it in the same bracket as Freya for being overdone.

I wouldn't put Rose with it though.

Adding Rose to any halfway decent name immediately makes it sound very twee. May has the same effect and is possibly worse if anything.

That is only my humble opinion though, and I believe everyone is entitled to one!

mrsdisorganised · 11/07/2009 20:25

Lovely.

CurlyCasper · 11/07/2009 20:33

Good Scottish name, it's fairly common - grew up alongside a couple is Islas (30 now) but never known one without Scottish parentage.

Just please don't add the Y (as in the Isle of Islay) as some people do.

Iona is an island too (and Jura, Gigha, Tiree, Mull, Coll....)

mumofmaniacs · 11/07/2009 20:34

Gorgeous. Yes. Love it. Want it

mumofmaniacs · 11/07/2009 20:35

Oh, not with Rose. Dont do Rose's

pointydog · 11/07/2009 20:52

good name

NanaJo · 12/07/2009 04:33

I live in Canada and for whatever reason, Isla is becoming popular here. A neighbour's new granddaughter has been named Isla.

Sugarkane · 12/07/2009 10:58

My 14 month old is Isla-Rae, I love the name and have never known another Isla eventhough the name is growing popular, I also live in Scotland.

GiraffesCanRunA10k · 12/07/2009 11:01

Lovely

On the island subject I knew a Taransay once, her sister was Gigha
