On the baby names websites there are so many different ways to spell it!! My grandma wants a Katie and partner has decided he wants to call her Lenny for short so i need the "len" in there some where really.
Please help with spelling as i dont want it to be made up and i have seen it spelt like this but there are so many different ways!!!

Don't you get a say in this? You know, being the one to carry her around for 9 months and then deliver her?

Kaitlen doesn't look right to me. Katie is a nice name, Lenny for a girl is horrid.

Caitlin is correct as far as I am aware, although the Irish spelling may be different.

Plus if "Len" was in there it would end up Kate Len rather than Kate Lynn

Can't you settle for Caitlin, and your dp call her Linnie (at a push )

It was on the short list, it was for my second daughter aswell. My grandma really wants a Katie and she is really ill in hospital and i dont know if shel get to meet her so its kind of a last wish thing for her.
So yeah i do get a say but im doing it for her.

And I don't actually mind Lenny for agirl either. Like German Leni (unfortunately reminds me of Leni Riefenstahl - Hitler's fave film-maker).

Caitlin was originally pronounced Kathleen, it has acquired catelyn pronunciation over the past hundred years or so.

3lilgirls call your baby whatever you want to, if you like Kaitlen then go for it. if you don't then don't let your grandma and dp (or people on this thread) bully you.

I agree that Kaitlen is a different name (if at all!) to Caitlin or similar - my niece is Kaitlyn. Heidi Klum's daughter is Leni.

Caitlin is nice.

Or what about Lexi instead of Lenny?

You could get Lenny form Magdelen or Magdelena? Which is sweet i think. Could you use Katie or Kate as a mn?

I am due today(nothing happening yet)and I am decided on Caitlin but other spellings i considered were Caitlen or Caitlyn. I looked at the K option but like you worried about the made upness of it so decided against it. She will probably have enough issues with people spelling her name wrong anyway as she's growing up. We wanted Caitlen as we both liked Kate but it didn't fit the MN we had. Good Luckwith whatever you decide !

The Caitlin I work with is known as Cait with that spelling.

I'm not keen on the name, personally because it sounds too American tome. People think it's Irish but it's a made up Irish name.
However, names are so subjective and everyone must make their own choice.

Yes thanks- I have had raspberry leaf tea and some marital rights with hubby today- but i'm sceptical on the dates anyway. I'm more confident it'll be next week- but you never know! I'm glad your friend is a Cait as we like that name equally. Funnily enough you're right- it is Irish for 'Kathleen' and is literally spelt as they pronounce it.

I know a Caitlyn who always gets called Katie by her parents.

Caitlin isn't a made-up Irish name, it's the Irish spelling of Kathleen, equivalent of K/Catherine, like Scottish Catriona.
Spell it properly and she can still be known as "Lenny"; doesn't have to be CaitlEN at all. I have a good friend, Arlene, who's known as Lenny, which works well.
