Was flicking through books to get inspiration and chuckled at the thought of calling baby Elvis but since then it's really growing on me! Is that just mad or do you think it's passable?

If you want your child to be the butt of jokes for years to come then yes go ahead.

How about his middle name Aaron?

CandleQueen · 01/06/2009 16:49

There's a Welsh St Elvis.
It too love the name, but just couldn't do it to a child.

Tortington · 01/06/2009 16:51

pregnanty women should absolutley be banned from naming children until they are 6 months old

there is a spirit that posesses them and makes then call their kids all manner of stupid shit

oliverboliverbutt · 01/06/2009 16:52

it's a fantastic name - but you can't name your child that.

No no no.

VeryAnnieMary · 01/06/2009 18:09

Do it, I say!

seeker · 01/06/2009 18:16

OK - I know I always say this, but imagine yourself, just for a moment, a shy, slightly spotty, 11 year old. You are a bit smaller than your friends because you haven't done your growing yet. Your blazer is too big, your shoes are huge (because your feet HAVE done their growing!)and you are so self consious you wish you could sink into the floor whenever anybody looks at you.

On your first day at your new secondary school, you're asked to introduce yourself to your new classmates. Imagine yourself saying "My name's Elvis" Imagine your class mate's reaction.

Then step away from any name that invites ridicule.

Wheelybug · 01/06/2009 18:28

It was my grandmother's middle name - yes, really. She was welsh but not sure that's any excuse.

Horton · 01/06/2009 19:07

I really like it. I really do. Just not sure I'd do it to a child!

DeathbyDora · 01/06/2009 19:11

I love it! But for some reason I keep seeing a little baby with a quiff and big side-burns in a sequined babygrow...

jabberwocky · 01/06/2009 19:14

I really wanted to name ds1 Elvis! Dh was against it but I still feel a pang that we didn't do it.

I say go for it! There's lots of others out there - Elvis Mitchell, Elvis Costello...

I think it is Danish?

jabberwocky · 01/06/2009 19:17

sigh

seeker · 01/06/2009 19:17

Why do people want their children to be laughed at? If you love the name, then change your own name to Elvis by deed poll, but please don't inflict it on a child who has no choice in the matter.

girlandboy · 01/06/2009 19:19

I know a family whose surname is Elvis, and even that makes me smirk.

You can't do that to a child.

wrinklytum · 01/06/2009 19:23

Back in the old days when I trained as a nurse you still did a stint with a midwife as part of your training. In this area there is quite a large Romany encmpment and Elvis is,apparently, quite a popular name for boys within the gypsy community.I saw a 7 dy old Elvis,he was very cute but I honestly couldn't do that to a child, either.

HellHathNoFury · 01/06/2009 19:24

Erm....
I wouldn't, no

lixanismapolium · 01/06/2009 20:15

I worked with a guy called Elvis and he was pretty proud of his name!

VeryAnnieMary · 02/06/2009 09:05

I think it's very "now" in terms of Gladys having chosen it cos she wanted her son to be different. Some things never change.

Doubt Elvis will stand out as unusual as much these days in a sea of Chardonnays and sundry.

Do it do it do it! (or not, if you don't want to)

sockmonster · 02/06/2009 13:16

oh, go on, please do it!!!

LolaTheShowgirl · 02/06/2009 14:32

Don't be a selfish twunk. I think it would be a form of child cruelty calliig your child Elvis.

FFS, I hope you are not serious.

mrsruffallo · 02/06/2009 14:36

I feel you

serin · 02/06/2009 22:49

Seriously, I know two.

Neither of them get laughed at, little kids don't know who Elvis was.

St. Elvis was Welsh and he lived around the Preseli mountains, so maybe Elvis the singer had Welsh heritage.

Thunderduck · 02/06/2009 22:52

Don't do it. It's cruel.

RachieB · 03/06/2009 12:39

Elvis Costello is my friends uncle lol

we have an Ellis, who is NNed Elvis sometimes, among many others!

someone misread the birth announcement and thought it said Elvis! i was lmao and it kind of stuck as a NN as he has gotten older ( now aged 7)

i dont think i would be so cruel as to use it as an actual firtst name though!
