Philip - what's wrong with it?

Seriously, I'd like to know!

I had really quite liked Philip for a boy...but it was rather negatively received on MN.

I wouldn't want my potential DS to suffer from an awful name but it might be a shame to miss out on a good traditional name that's not too popular at the moment.

Doesn't it mean "horse-lover"???

There is nothing wrong with it, but it's like calling a tiny baby Ian, Graham, Brian, Gordon or Neil. It just sounds a bit unusual these days - a bit too 60's/70's. It's not cute in the way that Victorian/Edwardian names are again now. Like a baby girl called Maureen... it just doesn't seem right!

LOL at NationalFlight, Would have thought that the Christian name of Philip would have originated from St. Philip who was one of Jesus' apostles.

Nothing to do with onions.
