Don't pair Effie with the middle name Nell...

I've only ever seen it spelled Iphigenia.

DH wanted to call DD1 that, but I put my foot down.

Effie is lovely, and AFAIK short for Euphemiam, although I really like the sound of Efthalia. Where does that come from Lulumama?

Effluent ?

palomasmum · 05/02/2010 20:43

You're all wrong - it's short for Josephine

Jamieandhismagictorch · 05/02/2010 20:47

Ephemeral

My lovely girl is called Ephra which we shorten to Effie (but it’s written ephie) 💕

Effie is short for a Greek name isn’t? Or it may be a solo Greek name I don’t know. I have only known one Euphemia a girl aged four so too young for niCk names it for her it seemed.

EyMacarena · 31/08/2023 23:11

In Greek it can be used for any girls names starting Ev/Ef/Eu

My friend gave birth to an Effie recently, short for Esther.
