Do you own a stately home?

Not keen, but I'm common

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 06/05/2009 20:33

I think it's cool! Reminds me of the gardener.

differentID · 06/05/2009 20:33

not keen as a given, but cute as a nn for Jonathan.

Heated · 06/05/2009 20:38

Like the nn v much, as differentID says.

HuwEdwards · 06/05/2009 20:42

I think it's truly dreadful.

abroadandmisunderstood · 06/05/2009 20:43

PIL suggested this as DS1's name. We didn't ask name advice ever again. It is too posh and sounds like a "sound", not a name.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Cadmum · 06/05/2009 20:45

pretentious...

My ear can't hear beyond jaunty which is an adjective rather than a name iykwim.

tummytickler · 06/05/2009 22:07

Love it but only as a nn for Jonathan. I wanted to use it but dh is a Jonathan and he HATES his name, and wouldnt let me!

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 06/05/2009 22:09

jonty = poncy

MrsEricBana · 06/05/2009 22:15

Sticks head above parapet and shouts "Well I really like it" and runs off quickly.

hf128219 · 06/05/2009 22:16

Only if you are titled!

IlanaK · 06/05/2009 22:20

My son has a friend called Jonty. He is neither titled nor poncy! Actually, the family is part chinese so I always thought it came from there, but maybe not.

diedandgonetodevon · 06/05/2009 22:21

I love it but maybe because I know a very attractive Jonty I am biased!

ravenAK · 06/05/2009 22:22

OK short nn for Jonathans under 5, if you must.

Definitely not a proper name.

Overmydeadbody · 06/05/2009 22:24

sorry but to me it sounds awful

piscesmoon · 06/05/2009 22:37

No-not even as a nickname for Jonathan.

Poppity · 06/05/2009 22:40

I like it!

Bobblebuddy · 06/05/2009 22:59

hmmmm bit pretentious I think. When DH and I meet people who are a bit 'rah', a bit country club, we call them jonty and tristan. no offence to anyone out there, but it's a name that screams oxbridge scarf and hugh grant stylie big hair. equally horrible nn for jonathan is 'Joth'. Ugh.

Bobblebuddy · 06/05/2009 22:59

Almost as bad as shortening Alexander to 'Xander' instead of Alex. trying way too hard...

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/05/2009 23:01

My ds middle name is Jonty (8 months)
I imagine he will get picked on when he is older.
It is after my great grandad. My 2 year dd calls him by this as she struggles with his first.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 06/05/2009 23:03

I am really not posh though

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 06/05/2009 23:04

Love it and especially love it as a nn for Jonathan.

You can't win here. By the time you kick out chav names, poncetastic names, names that everyone else has and names that are so unusual everyone will go when you tell them, there is only William and Beatrice left

PlumBumMum · 06/05/2009 23:08

I would never have put Jonty and posh in the same sentence, suppose it depends what accent you have
