I like it.

Never heard of "Joth" as nn, sounds like "Josh" with a lisp

Guadalupe · 06/05/2009 23:11

I know one Jonty and he is very scruffy but there is a photo of his dad laughing with the queen on his fridge.

Agree with the whole floppy hair and Oxbridge scarf thing, but then every name has associations and there could be worse (unless you really hate Hugh Grant)

MrsEricBana · 07/05/2009 09:37

Is Rory perhaps similar but bit less poncetastic (love that word )

pranma · 07/05/2009 09:42

Jonty Rhodes cricketer
ds friend Jonathan has nn Joff
I like Jonty

Sunshinemummy · 07/05/2009 09:43

I love Jonty and also like Jonjo which friend was going to use if she had a boy.

seeker · 07/05/2009 09:46

My ds's friend John is called Jonty. Lovely nickname. I think of it as a bit posh too.

Jackstini · 07/05/2009 09:47

Not keen at all but at least he could shorten it to just Jon.
Jonty makes me think of either very small boy or titled, quite camp gentleman

seeker · 07/05/2009 09:47

Just read the thread properly and discovered that I disagree with piscesmoon - probably for the first time ever!

mears · 07/05/2009 09:47

We had a German Shepherd dog called Jonty. Can't imagine it for a child.

RachieB · 07/05/2009 10:01

Jonty ? Jonjo ?

NOOOOOOOO ! awful

stripeypineapple · 07/05/2009 10:12

I like it. It is posh though, are you?

I know a Jonty, he's also sometimes Jonts.

It's defo short for Johnathan and not a proper name on it's own.

I don’t like it, it sounds a bit harsh.

foxtiger · 11/12/2018 19:24

OK as a short form of Jonathan for the right person - it sounds very sporty and light-hearted to me, a quieter, more serious Jonathan might be better off as Jon or just Jonathan. I wouldn't give it as a full name.

midsomermurderess · 11/12/2018 19:56

There seems to be something rather comincal about it. Miles Judd would, maybe even has, played a Jonty.

stonygreysoil · 11/12/2018 20:06

would stick to using it as a nickname/middle name

Picknickers · 12/12/2018 00:16

The creepy boy at my school was called Monty. He tried to stroke my legs so it's a no from me.

Picknickers · 12/12/2018 00:17

Jonty not Monty bloody autocorrect 😡

jessstan2 · 12/12/2018 00:57

Weird. Not heard that name before. What's wrong with 'John''?

Years ago I did know someone called, 'Jimpy'. Equally weird.
