I like Lexi but only as a nickname for Alexandria. Think Alexia, Alexa, Alexis, Alexandra are quite overused and Alexandria makes a nice change as it is similar but less popular.

nappyaddict · 24/04/2009 23:27

Oh yes I used to know a Lexine. Lovely name.

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 24/04/2009 23:28

actually just realised you want to use Alexandria...it is a gorgeous name, but is it a name coming into fashion? Because a friend just had an Alxandria....

ilovesprouts · 24/04/2009 23:31

i like em both as i know 2 kids called lexi/darcy

ilovesprouts · 24/04/2009 23:33

and i dont think they sound chavvy

I have an Alexandra known as Lexie

Lexie is a name in its own right, it is Scottsh meaning 'sparkling' which I think is lovely

idiots can make a cruel nickname from ANY name so don't be put off - if you like it use it

and the word chavvy frankly is crass and rude, if people don't like names they should at least have the good grace to say something like 'its not to my taste' but then I'm fed up saying that on here - apparently its no holds barred re manners on baby names thread

Darcy and Lexie both pretty imo

dizzydixies · 25/04/2009 07:07

oh and if its good enough for David Bowie and Iman then its good enough for me

savoycabbage · 25/04/2009 07:21

Are they for a boy or a girl?

SoupDragon · 25/04/2009 07:23

I can't hear Darcy without adding "Arsey" to it. Hate the name.

paolosgirl · 25/04/2009 08:30

I thought Lexie meant 'defender or helper of mankind'? Is it a name in it's own right? Oh well, you live and you learn.

dizzydixies · 25/04/2009 08:39

as a shortening of Alexandra it does but there is a scots name Lexine or Lexie meaning sparkling too

paolosgirl · 25/04/2009 08:52

Just looked for that meaning using google and couldn't - genuinely interested, as a Scot I've never heard it being used on it's own, or meaning sparkling! You may be interested to know that according to the Scotsman newspaper, Riley, Lexi, Kayden and Nieve are the among the most popular heading up the charts in Scotland.

dizzydixies · 25/04/2009 08:59

I can't find it either now paolosgirl BUT when I named my Lexie 3yrs ago I did - I remember as it was how I convinced DH to use it - she's more like a defender of mankind though

delighted to hear that it is becoming so popular, esp when ranked right up there with Kayden and wrongly spelt Niamh

just goes to show you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. DD1 has a name that everyone states is far too common although we don't know another. DD2 is now apparently becoming more popular and DD3 has a name thats more commonly used for a boy - just as well DH and I love them and don't really care

dizzydixies · 25/04/2009 09:15

I cannot find it for love nor money now and am pretty sure I didn't make it up to suit as I showed it to DH!

anyway, regardless of the meaning I love it, it suits DD2 and she not only sparkles but defends her sisters too

I'm a firm believer in a)not looking at lists and b)not listening to anyone else when you're choosing your child's name. You're right - you're damned either way, aren't you!

A sparkly defender of mankind - what a fab meaning!

I love Lexie, and its on my shortlist, well pretty much all the time!

dizzydixies · 25/04/2009 10:00

imagine seeing you here Scorpio

lockets - we'll be laughing when they're ruling the world!

ScorpiowithabigS · 25/04/2009 10:01

I really like Lexine...very nice. Dizzy is Lexie too much with my surname?

dizzydixies · 25/04/2009 10:04

absolutely not because of the Os in your surname balancing it out

nellynaemates · 25/04/2009 10:28

They're not my personal cup of tea but I think they're both ok. If choosing Lexi I'd want to call her Alexandra so that she could have a choice later on, also think it's nice to have a formal name that can be reduced to a NN but I know lots of people disagree with me!

MaureenMLove · 25/04/2009 10:29

I love both names. I can imagine little girls with gorgeous blonde hair, with a few curls and pretty little dresses on. Ridiculous, I know, but I just think both names are sooo pretty.

My name, incidentally, means heavenly and my middle name means vision of beauty. Oh well, if the cap fits!!
